when you subtract a number with the same digits you get a checksum that is a multiple of nine. The difference from the number your placing to the next multiple of nine is the number you took away. Sorry i am realy bad in explanation but this is how it works. Some example:

642-246=396 so take the six away you get 39 sum of digits is 12. The next multiple is 18. 18-12 is 6.

hey i have tried it before a year or something.
The trick is that the number you are telling him ,just total them and subtract with nine.You will get the circled number.
