I want to learn testing automation and hence I am starting with a very basic concept of creating a GUI based tool which basically is going to simulate few notifications like low battery, battery full, Memory full, etc in a single click and It should also perform the key actions (Say for example if LSK is mapped to Left Soft Key, 1 for the first option in the list, etc sending that LSK key to the script should trigger Options or the Left Soft Key option.).

I have a decent amount of knowledge about the Perl syntax and how it works while I am a total beginner to the Python and Ruby. I however would not mind learning though. I would request you guys to guide me in my following queries:

1. Which is the best suitable script (easy to maintain) to develop automated testing tools for mobile handsets? Should I go with Perl/Python or with the VB/C# side as I need a GUI based tool.
2. Kindly provide me some links where I can get some coding examples on the basics of testing automation for mobile handsets. I did a Google search but all I ended up was theoretical stuff. Pardon my searching skills.

Not sure if this information will be of any use in you guiding me, but still, the device for which I am planning to automate testing is a Motorola CDMA phone (something of the type Motorola RAZR V3c CDMA or Motorola T720 CDMA) which supports Brew applications download and also has a QWERTY keypad.
