screen lighting up all the time

Just got the rokr z6m. Service through Metropcs. I don't know much about phones so please help me out here. The phone's screen lights up every 5 minutes or so then turns off after a minute. This is killing my battery and I have tried everything in the limited manual that i can see it might be. I havent even started filling the phone with contacts or anything else cause I might not want it but unfortunatly am stuck with it, unless its defective. If I unloc the keys the screen stays lit constantly so I am stuck keeping it locked. I thought it might be loosing service/ reception and thats why the creen lights up but evertime it lights up I look and I have bars. Today the phone just froze up for 2 minutes and shut off during a call. Did metropcs set it up wrong? Do I need firmware? what is firmware? How can I stop this? the phone is dead by morning if I don't leave it on the charger. Please help me figure my phone out since I am stuck with it and want to like it (my wife also got the same phone/ same problems)

Sounds like a bug in the firmware (this is the operating system of the phone), if bought locally you may want to contact your dealer or motorola service center and arrange a firmware update or replacement. Failing that you can probably call Motorola customer service directly and they'll hopefully be able to direct you to appropriate update software. (make sure your battery is fully charged before doing any updates yourself)
