Default Trying 2.6.30 OpenEZX / qtopia on an EZX phone

    Hello,
First : for the begginners, this guide cannot replace the basics informations you have at http://wiki.openezx.org/Getting_Started .
Always use the latest bootusb and genblob! There is binaries here:
    http://people.openezx.org/wyrm/boot_usb and http://people.openezx.org/wyrm/gen-blob/gen-blob
if you set correctly the correct machid it is supposed to run on all ezx devices... but maybe mux ( gsm network) will not work on A780 ( the driver is a little bugged at the mom.)

To try some qtopia rootfs :

    1) Partition and format an ext2 partition on an SD ( rootfs).

    2) Download and extract to the Sd' rootfs this: http://ezxdev.org/qtopia/testing/Ang....rootfs.tar.gz
( angstrom rootfs tuned for qtopia.)

    3) Extract this as well on the rootfs: Index of /muromec/image/2009-06-06 ( latest qtopia release from muromec)

    4) Muromec recommend this kernel: http://people.openezx.org/muromec/im...9-06-14/zImage and extract all the modules from http://people.openezx.org/muromec/im...-14/mod.tar.gz to the rootfs as well....

    5) Copy that file to the rootfs too (supposedly in / bin, but i dunno where, sorry, but you will see some mux ( gsm network) -not fatals- errors if you don't! The main problem, is that if it isn't loaded, the BP might power off the device after 1 minut of use...( watchdog )
    http://people.openezx.org/muromec/mux

    6) Config and scripts to launch qtopia, (they need to be placed to /etc/ ) http://people.openezx.org/muromec/init.d_qpe and http://people.openezx.org/muromec/default_qtopia

    7) Utility to calibrate the touch screen.http://people.openezx.org/muromec/pointercal

    Hi,
No, you don't need to flash, its experimental, so don't install it yet!
Yes, you need to partition and format an Sd to put the angstrom/qtopia rootfs, it looks the same as the "ezxdev's qtopia on flash", but is different internally, this run a newer kernel, fully re-written by the community!
Maybe the hardware will work better or exactly as we want it to... it's the newest kernel, the same as in the PCs, tho even ubuntu don't have updated to 2.6.30 yet!
Read this tuto, to try and have an overview idea! Getting Started - OpenEZX

No probs, thanks actually, it's more a thing i have forgoten to tell, btw...
Well, It's only necessary to flash genblob if you really want to use the dualboot "on the go" ( say without the need of a PC to launch qtopia ) . Also once genblob flashed on the phone you will be able to place calls with qtopia, anyway it's necessary to use genblob to boot (flashed or not) because of a lot of things it fixes...

The tuto lives here: Dual boot - OpenEZX

Ah, as a (easily fixable) side note : You cannot actually use an OpenEZX kernel ( aka the one from Muromec on this tuto ) as the "default" kernel, genblob is made to only let you boot an OpenEZX kernel alternatively ( means in the second, third, choice of the boot menu you will setup ).

I've been messing with wyrm's latest zImage for days now
It just boot to all-white screen with some thin vertical lines after I change SD partition table into msdos

What partition table should I use? or it doesn't really matter?
    Anyone, please.

hehe, finally I figured out there was something wrong with those partitions, not the table.

and, could "rootfs" parameter set to extended partition? and how should I do that?

I think you can add the cmdline parameters when you using boot_usb or when you use dualboot by adding them to the boot menu config.

When this is not working you need to recompile the kernel with the specific cmdline parameters.
    Partition: root=/dev/mmcblk0p2
    Partitiontype: rootfstype=ext2
You must change the parameters for your setup.

    See ezx_defconfig, section boot options.

It's said that it's "partition number", so it wouldn't bother whether it's extended or primary, right?
// so why people are suggesting to use primary? (and we could have only 4 primary partitions)
