maybe your firmware is not compatible.
i have this:
http://www.motorolafans.com/MotoModF...0E1027full.zip
and it works like a dream![]()
i have tried both version of zImage from Openmoko image from goxboxlive and also the one built by wyrm (a780 one)
both of them goes to the blank screen after the kernal is uploaded.
And the phone can be switched on by pressing power botton.
The A780 firmware is R52_G_0D_50.AHP, BP: R52_G_0D_41.B1P
Maybe i will try to build myself...

@swifty
I will prob flash the phone when i have time.. thanks for the link
@wyrm
I have tried using the zImage for e680 and it works. I can see linux is booting up, but it gives an error after a while and stopped there.
rootpath=VFS: Cannot open root device "mmcb1k0p2" or unknown-block(0,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernal panic - not syncined: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unkonwn-block(0,0)
So its a BP flash issue? This phone has not been flashed at all, all I have changed is the flexbit for the phone.
Thanks
@intoxicated
I believe that your BP is flashed with E680 firmware.
Have you bought the phone second-hand? Or on a store, new?
Here is what is happening on your phone:
There is a line(a track on the circuit) which goes BP <-> AP, on A780 this line is always powered, unless your battery is very low.
The kernel reads the status of this line at early boot, and if there is no power, the kernel turnoff the AP, to avoid battery damage by over-draining.
This behaviour was copied from the Motorola released source code, but it never worked on E680.
Your phone is the first A780 that doesnt honor this line. If it is stock firmware, then the Motorola source code cannot be trusted regarding this, and i can definitely disable this behaviour for A780 too.
I dont like the idea, as there is no other way of detecting a very low battery, and i dont want to damage users batteries.
If your phone was bought new, and you guarantee that it was never flashed, then i will disable this code, so you can use OpenEZX..
Until i decide what to do, you can use http://people.openezx.org/wyrm/zImage-a780-intoxicated to play with OpenEZX on your a780.![]()

I've tryed to compile qtopia 2.1.0, 2.1.1, qtopia-free-1.7.0.tar.bz2, but I've got errors:
# ./arm-linux-g++ -v
Reading specs from ./../lib/gcc-lib/arm-linux/3.3/specs
Configured with: ./configure --target=arm-linux
gcc version 3.3
qt-2.3.6
while I'm compiling qtopia 1.7.0, I get this:
make -C libraries/qtopia

@wyrm,
thanks! i have managed to boot into openezx kernal with the modified zimage from the link, openmoko works quite nice on the phone
however, i am not too sure if this phone is flashed or not, the phone is second hand and i think it comes with a original unflash china mobile branded firmware. Maybe it will be a good idea for me to flash to another firmware?
hmmm i will try this weekend.
thanks!!
@wyrm
Can You get new zImage ready for E680 (not i) phone?
Because I face it with the same problem which You describe every time when I try to use some zImage from SD partition!
How to resolve this issue ?
Thanks
i hav successfully running Qtopia in my e680i using goxboxlive qtopia image.very smooth and damn good!
![]()
just an additional question,i used a780 zimage and Qtopia-4.3.0 for A780 for my e680i.is this correct? or i must use e680 zimage and e680 image?(e.g: e680 openmoko image) is it for e680 or e680i? i just need confirmation even though i already running Qtopia by using a780 zimage.![]()
