Many thanks again for the particular tuto

Okay, I think I give up. I could reach neither building kernel nor geting boot_usb and I don't dare to risk my system nor my phone anymore

    shiver@shiver-laptop:~/Munkaasztal$ sudo ./boot_usb setflag usb
    $Id: boot_usb.c 2456 2009-03-29 23:46:33Z wyrm $
Serching for EZX phone: A780/E680 found.
    100% OK
    shiver@shiver-laptop:~/Munkaasztal$ sudo ./boot_usb gen-blob 0
    $Id: boot_usb.c 2456 2009-03-29 23:46:33Z wyrm $
Serching for EZX phone: A780/E680 found.
    Uploading kernel: 100% OK
    Uploading params: 100% OK
    Calling the kernel...
    DONE
    shiver@shiver-laptop:~/Munkaasztal$ sudo ./boot_usb zImage-2.6.23.1-ezxdev 1740
    $Id: boot_usb.c 2456 2009-03-29 23:46:33Z wyrm $
Serching for EZX phone: Generic Blob found.
Sending mach id code 1740: 100% OK
    Uploading kernel: 100% OK
    Uploading params: 100% OK
    Calling the kernel...
    DONE

And after reboot nothing was changed on my phone :/

You don't even flash the gen-blob (yet).
So, after you reboot the phone, it loads the original (Motorola) kernel.

    As you've flashed the gen-blob:
    - pressing power button will load "default" kernel in mmc
    - vol up combination to boot in usbmode
    - vol down combination to boot "menu.lst"

Haha shiver, don't worry, you should have been warned ( twice!! ) before switching anything from the old (and flawlessly working) motorola system to any free alternative that are so hard to use, configure, connect, etc, (actually that not any port is really working well on an openezx kernel.... (qtopia is graphically developed, but still in development, FSO too, bi'm affraid for now only half working images are avalaible ( i'm maybe wrong, but i don't think fresh news came recently..., well last week...) that can do very well some specific jobs, etc, but that isn't enough to flash and replace anything!!

So you try a distro, a new kernel and a new filesystem (rootfs) as alternative system, and ( as you and jendral_hxr noticed ) after a reboot nothing changed (thanks god!!!! ).

Well jendral also was talking (and refer Dual boot - OpenEZX on the wiki as well) about bootloaders that are to reflash ( it isn't easy!! ) on the phone ( in fact is is not a bootloader replacment, our "generic - blob" take place at a safe place to erase, and that 'intercept the boot' to launch either moto's in flash system, or any alternative on USB or SD card...

As we are talking about flashing, etc, yes, Muromec recently wrote an opensource tool for reflashing an ezx device look at ezxdev.blogspot.com or translated version, posts from the 14 and the 26 of august...
there are also this wiki page Backups - OpenEZX explaining some bits about bootusb flashing and reading commands, there were even more BP tools, and windows bootusb versions, abandonned now afaik, but still "functionning"

    Okay

It may be a stupid question but I really don't understand how will the new OS get onto the phone?

So, what I need to write in the following line instead of the "firmware.bin" ?

    ./boot_usb read 0 33554432 firmware.bin # for phones with 32MB NOR
(and most of all where can I get the necessary firmware file? I don't seem to build it from source :/ )

Sorry, I'm really such noob :/

That's good shiver, you are quite close to understand everything...

Here you posted commands "./bootusb read blabla"

That is a command for a backup of the flash content.

There is ( still) no real firmware to try openezx, you still think about modding stuffs and they are not the same.
Openezx is all about changing all bits of the phone's AP OS, with GPL'ed code preferably, , so it is a problem to distribute that with special proprietary RDSlite fileformat,etc..

There will be some "flash >> are you sure? >> done!" utilities, i talked about some beta test softwares, but for now i suggest you don't flash anything on your phone...it is useless either for developping or to launch a demo.

Even the dualboot is not mandatory, ( you can send genblob with bootusb from usb flash mode) if what you want is a fully working alternative, that alternative still don't really exist. Read out the getting started chapter about this, it is useless to flash it unless you want to place a call under an openezx distro afaik... And as i said tools to setup a dual boot, a rootfs on SD...etc... are to come...

Some Openezx developers share their testing rootfs, for demo or developing purpose, they can be found in their "people.openezx.org" account. ( some images from muromec contain a rootfs build, ao2 built openembedded rootfs of a recent FSO release for our devices, goxboxlive image works very well, for some stuffs too...).

I must say it's not necessary to instal QT to my phone

I want only a hard reset (or re-install), but I can't do this cause I don't know the security password. A few years ago I also had an a780 and I remember I modded it via PST and I also upload to it a super firmware something after the first installing.

No everyone are as helpful as you.
I just would like to find a tuto about this but in the topics I found via google the responders said me I may use google because it has already written somewhere So, I want simply a usable a780 phone now but I haven't a faithless where I need to search tuto for PST modding (or at least how can I dodge the securitys pwrd for the hard reset)

    Maybe working instantaneous soluce
howto_reset_the_master_security_code - Mobile Linux Development Community
If it don't work post a new thread there , on the a780 subforum... if your a780 was satisfying to your needs and all you want is a master reset, there are prob. a lot of ways for doing this...
From what i read, it seems easy.
It is surprising you didn't found any "monsterpack" or anything for an A780... our forum should have every useful infos, but maybe A780's infos date a little and appeart neither from google, nor on the first pages from a "search" here... This is weird...

Yea, it seems to be absolute easily but there are no lines belong to passwords in ezx_system.cfg file Just a few minor information mostly pertain to date, time zone and other simply changable settings

Anyway, you got to post the question in the adequate sub-forum A780, i'm sure you'll find an answer.
    I would also try 000000 123456 1234 ...
