Just flashing took me up to about two hours.
I'd be really interested in a simple HowTo with nice friendly information about what is happening/how it is safe

If it is on OpenEZX wiki I will add to it in December when my term finishes and I have some time

  2. Default Howto Flash Your A780

Hi i have made a howto for flashing your A780 to get dual boot loader.
As wyrm told me, the most important part is to have a fully charged battery.

And so you know, i am not responsable if something goes wrong.
This method worked well for me.

    Good luck.

    @goxboxlive
    Some notes:
    * The current boot_usb source code on svn.openezx supports both, original bootloader and blob2. There is no need for a different boot_usb
    * WVIMPS is Wirelless Village Instant Messenger. It is present on all stock firmwares, but do not show on the Main Menu. I tried to make it work, but it doesnt.
    * Add information about turning off the backlight, it is handy to save battery.
    * Thanks for the how-to, add it to wiki.openezx if you have some time.

@swifty: with Angström-Openmoko image it's possible to open the dialer and dial something - phoning does not work, of course.

Awesome. I am about to try this, but I was wondering a few things - perhaps someone can help:

I understand what we're doing when changing what's on all the different partitions, but I can't see clear instructions for how to then load a rootfs from a TF card - is the OpenEZX kernel that we flashed (will flash ) to mtd4 configured to look on the second partition of the TF card and mount a rootfs?

If this is the case, how careful do I need to be with the compatibility of kernels with images? Can I use the kernel provided by goxboxlive with one of the Angstrom images from
    http://www.angstrom-distribution.org...a780/20071105/ ?

(the date is not very recent - are there any newer ones around?)

If not, which images can I use?

I hope this isn't all made clear in the howto that came with Wyrm's bootloader - people.openezx.org is down so I can't get to that file. If it is just tell me to wait or sent it to me I can't do this until then anyway, because I need the bootloader

My current understanding is that I am replacing steps 5 and 6 of this
    http://www.linuxtogo.org/~goxboxlive/A780/images/README

With the 'dual boot method' provided
    here http://wiki.openezx.org/Dual_boot

    Is that about right?

Wyrm: any news on how close Alex Zhang's bootloader is to the A780?

    Who

PS: I'll update the wiki page with responses to this, if you want, goxboxlive...

Make sure it is ext2 and it is on the second partition.
Kernel, and Rootfs versions shouldnt really matter, altough you may have some problems with older kernels if you use newer rootfs.

I am quite busy lately with real-life concerns (promotion, AKA, a little more money, twice the work), not much time for OpenEZX. I will be on vacancy on the last 2 weeks of january, and i hope to have some time to shorten my OpenEZX TODO list.

Thanks for the speedy response Wyrm. Congrats on the promotion! Dual boot and two cards should do me fine for the mean time . Am I right in thinking that the dialer is still just waiting on gsmd devs to have some time/for gsmd2 to happen and for those devs to have some time?

Where have you uploaded your bootloader to? I'm looking forward to getting going

    Thanks again,

Done. File is .TGZ, remove the .ZIP extension.

I placed the rootfs on the second partition so i could use the first one with the default firmware. This way i dont need 2 cards.
gsmd integration is still unfinished, last time i tried (2/11) there was an strange issue which made gsmd not evaluate data sent from ezxd.
