    Openmoko has begun shipping its Linux-based, open source Neo Freerunner phone to five newly announced distributors, in Germany, France, and India, says the company. The Neo Freerunner features an open hardware design, and a Linux-based operating system that users are free to modify.

    Ill pay 400 now for that phone,i wanted the first neo i think i would get this before the a1600. This is going to be big i want it.

    the first are in the UK today, i think it needs some more days for the ship to US
    plus you will get the right one for the US. the European GSM band is different.
    dont expect a working dayphone with the features your Motorola has!
    the massmarket Freerunner will be out later this year, but you can update the software as you like
    the hardware will be the same.

    Would you be able to run linux programs like the desig software GIMP i use in ubuntu,or it would have to converted for the phone. An also you think something like that could even be done with this freerunner.

    gimp is working, but think of the screen size
    goto openmoko forum
    look out for some "not my NEO, not Openmoko"
    find out something for yourself

    In India its Rs 20000 thats a little less than 500USD, a bit expensive. Also I spoke to the distributor who is located about 2000kms away, they dont have a local distributor .
