Have you configured your phone for data correctly? This would be the only issue I can think of.
Hi,
Has anybody figured out the correct settings for gmail imap account? I managed to configure it on V3xx, but I can't get it working on my Z8. I used settings from Help Center - Configuring other mail clients but the phone fails to fetch any mails.
Has anybody managed to get this working?
Thanks!

Yes, web surfing works fine. I installed the Gmail java application which also works fine, but I haven't been able to get the phone's own email client to work with Gmail.
Have you managed to get it working? If so, it would be great if you could send the exact settings you used?
Thanks!
I actually don't have a data plan so no email for me, lol. The only other thing I can think of is the port settings and secure connection type. Did you check those in the advanced menu?
Yup, here is the configuration I have. I've tried all kinds of combinations, but this is what I think should be the correct one. Any errors anybody can spot?
Basic
Account name: Gmail
Your name: My Name
Email address: my.name@gmail.com
Connecion type: IMAP
Allow IMAP idle: checked
Internet account: Preferred account
Inbox
Incoming server address: imap.gmail.com
User name: my.name@gmail.com
Password: xxxxxxxx
Download restrictions: Just headers
Outbox
Outgoing server address: smtp.gmail.com
Use SMTP authentication: ckecked
Use Inbox login details: checked
Advanced Incoming
Secure connection: SSL
Incoming mail port: 993
Secure password authentication: unchecked
Advanced Outgoing
Secure connection: SSL
Outgoing mail port: 465
Use MIME encoding: checked
The weird thing is that the first time I enter the advanced settings, they seem to be reset and need to be saved again.
The error message I get is very "informative":
"The download failed because the account has errors in its server settings."
And yes, I have IMAP enabled for my Google account and it works with V3xx.
Thanks.
The only thing I can think of would be the outgoing server settings. Try TLS and port 587 instead, probably won't do anything but its worth a try. Just curious though, what firmware you running? It might be worth it to upgrade if its pretty old.

Yes, I've also tried TLS with same results.
Firmware seems to be ESPOO_U_46.03.E2G_00000581. I have no idea how old that is. Would you recommend upgrading?
That firmware isn't too old but it might be worth upgrading. I can't say that an update would fix this issue though as it may be something within the network, but my phone was a little buggy as well with the original firmware so I'd say give it a shot. I upgraded to the ESPOO_U_46.04.64G_2312c5 thats in the other post of the Z8 section. There is a newer one but I didn't care for the font it uses and it didn't seem any faster. If you want to avoid flashing I'd say call your carrier's tech support line and see if they can offer you any help, they'll usually do their best to help a customer.
You're right. The error message is very informative. You do indeed have
errors in your settings. Major ones. Here are the correct settings. Enter them exactly as I say and you shouldn't encounter any problems.
Basic
Account name: Gmail
(or whatever you want to identify it as, it doesn't affect the settings at all)
Your name: My Name (This doesn't affect the settings either so type a nickname if you like)
Email address: Your gmail address in full eg. myname@gmail.com
Connection type: POP3
Internet account: Preferred account
Inbox
Incoming server address: pop.gmail.com
User name: Just the username, not the full address! eg. myname
Password: Your gmail password
Download restrictions: Just headers
(This setting is totally up to you and is dependent on whether you want your phone to download the entire email when retrieving messages, or just the header information)
Outbox
Outgoing server address: smtp.gmail.com
Use SMTP authentication: ckecked
Use Inbox login details: checked
Advanced Incoming
Secure connection: SSL
Incoming mail port: 995
Secure password authentication: unchecked
Advanced Outgoing
Secure connection: SSL
Outgoing mail port: 465
Use MIME encoding: checked
