October 11th ,
A few things have happened in the past month ,m but tbh I was quite discouraged so I never updated this thread .
1_ FINALLY there is a leaked 'test sbf file for FROYO ( android 2.2.1 ) a few lucky of us have tested it a few bugs already found as well , and the good news is Root is still possible on it .
So it wont be long before it is public .....
2_A Cyanogen Mod port has been built from source by the infamous Nadlabak ( follow him here at his web site : http://android.doshaska.net/cm6 )
3 Also about that new 'sh hijack' here is an update form M3 forums :
[HACK] 2nd-init
This is mainly for ROM developers - allows you to "restart" init process with your custom binary and custom rc scripts. Technically using code injection the code to call "execve("/init", {"/init", NULL**, environ);" is injected and the environ variables are read from /proc/1/environ by the binary.
It has to be combined with the "sh hijack". Info & download is here:

A new open recovery has been released about 2 weeks ago , it now has console ! I will upload other threads sometimes soon
Some Progress has been made on the Milestone's older brother the 'Droid X' recently the Saphire Rom has been partially ported of course it still runing on default kernel but all apps and most of the file been built from aosp witch means optimization is now possible as well as custom apps , in other words the whole system folder could now be re-written ... That is not completely new BUT its a first and requires lots of work for the same thing to be done on the Milestone , surely we ll have our own 'half way Cyanogen mod or Sapphire mod sometimes in the next weeks .
A new SH 'hijack has also been found witch allows earlier initialisation during the boot process witch should help in the process of these custom roms , thats about it for now ...

They say No News = Good News ... Well I decided to update the topics since in this case No news = Bad news :
First of all ... About what had been posted here on May 27th , the attempt to run partial port of SenseUI and Cyanogen has failed, without getting to technical about it . (updated june 22nd it now works !!! )
Regardless of Rumors you may have read around the Net the bootloader has not been freed nor cracked nor bypassed , significant progress on the kexec method has been made it is not working yet ....
So in short that is pretty much it , if any of you guys think they can help with the kexec project feel free to take a look at : http://and-developers.com/motorola_milestone
May 27 th
Custom rom ( Cyanogen and sense UI) just around the corner for Milestone Users ...
here is the full story :
Alright, this starts with this simple warning:
You Could Break your device doing this!
DO NOT just try and flash the droid build, it won't work, and could break things.
This is the same with all android phones with custom builds.
Firstly, as I've mentioned before, this idea was first developed by Dext3r from the alldroid forums before they went down. Heavy credits to him!
Here's the basics of how this works,
1. copy mot_boot_mode to mot_boot_mode.bin
2. create a new mot_boot_mode as a script (like you guys already use)
3. the standard system boots and loads the moto init, which runs the mot_boot_mode which in turn;
creates a new ramdisk
moves some mounts and things
does a chroot to the new ramdisk
runs the init with the new init.rc
Using a Droid based CM build as a base you need to replace many lib's, binary files, and firmware files (for wireless etc)
Instead of doing a whole writeup on his process here's his post from his initial work, it needs to be adapted to work on the CM build, but it's pretty close.

Reboot to win
Dext3r was the first to do this, I can't stress that enough

1_We can OVERCLOCK our beast like the Droid can , For now it only works on 2.31 and 2.34 ( both 2.1 Android version for Europe and Canada )
here is the link : http://code.google.com/p/milestone-overclock/
2_ Custom Update package has been updated and I will be posting a German modded version of it witch basically allows you to do pretty much all the mods in one click no need for a pc anymore .
Leaked Bootlader
9073 9074 and 9078 ( for 2.1 devices )
Note that they are also 9072 ( and 9080 suppose to be dev phone ) those have not been leaked .
Let's hope this is good news for us !!
********************* update (MARCH 28 TH )
There is a a few official ' 2.1 sbf file , this will NOT upgrade your bootloader and is NOT rootable recovery has ben fixed , although you can use custom sbf file ( finally one was made) so you can just flash the 'buggy recovery' witch allows you to basically root any phone , nobody knows if this will work on the newest phone that are released with 2.1 pre installed as they are running the new bootloader .
Some progress have been made in regards to hacking the bootloader here is what has been done as of yet if you can contribute with your skillz please dont hestitate
here is link : http://xvilka.github.com/2ndboot-ng/
