oder:or:
RapidShare Webhosting + Webspace
here is a walkthru ( in english)
_Rename file to Update.zip
_Put it on root of your sd
_Power off phone
_hold camera key and power buton at the same time until you see the motorola logo
_once you get the triangle with the ! in the middle hold camera button and hit volume up key (a few times) at the same time until menu shows up
_choose apply update.zip .
_Reboot phone
_go in application and make sure yo have the 'superuser whitelist in there .
Voila you are done .
It is said that you might get an error while flashing ( I did NOT )
If you do just flash again .

Hi,
I am just about to root my Milestone; one interesting question I have is this: why the zip file is 31M big while it only contains a handful of files all amounting to some 30K?
-- rooted successfully :}
FYI: My phone is a UK-localized version I bought from expansys. Its firmware rev. is 2.0 and build number is SHOLS_U2_01.03.1.1259012006.

I am pretty sure it is that big because in the early stage of the 'hacking process' they did not want to mess anything so they jsut copied the Droid method without too much modding it
Thanks. It makes sense.
I've now successfully built busybox (on my desktop which is running gentoo) for arm-unknown-linux-gnu and installed it (with adb push). Gee!
But the one big reason I needed it, in a practical sense, is to be able to remove Corporate Directory and Corporate Calendar from the phone. Do you perhaps know how to do that?
it is REALLY not recommended to remove built in apps , on the Droid its been known to cause instability Wait for custom roms ( I hate those to if you wanna try nonetheless I can find a tut for ya )
Edit :
Unless you know what you are doing !

First off, congrats with the mightiest device you've bought. Others have a good point to be jealous!
Re the use of rooting the phone, it's much up to you. There are a few apps out there that require the thing being rooted, such as, one that sets the CPU clock speed (and can thus help squeeze some more minutes of running time).
Apart from that, as a Linux user, I chose to root it simply because I find it natural to want root on any device I come to possess.
So don't be too much concerned about rooting your milestone: it will work just fine without it. Needless to say, rooting it will perhaps void the warranty. But if you choose to, don't be afraid either: just follow the instructions OP gives in the first post.
Re a `guide' you are asking for, there's no guide unless you want to hack the thing real hard and deep, or intend to develop for it. The device is ready for consumption off the shelf. But, I would still recommend installing the Android SDK (you'll get a shell access to your phone over USB, and other ways to tinker with it, too).
thx for the fast reply... guess ill search a lot to get used with the device and whats able to do. I really like messing around with devices so i can take'em to the edge. its all about flexibility...
Ill post any findings...
Saludos
