Strange, I have the same phone and here it works fine (ubuntu hardy)... Can you check if other USB storage devices (pendrives, etc) connect correctly?
I have trouble connecting my Motorola W230 to my linux box. When switched off, it appears as a device with ID 0451:d004 and two bulk endpoints, so the hardware works. When switched on, the phone asks if it should connect to USB as a storage device for the SD card, as decribed in the manual. When answering yes, I get a "USB device not responding, giving up (error=-32)" message in the syslog and the phone also gives an error message.
Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

It turned out the problem was an old driver for the USB mainboard controllers, even though it had worked with all other USB devices before. I also found out that you can use the W230 as a modem after patching cdc-acm; however, the protocol the W230 uses is non-standard, and it looks like the kernel people refuse to accept that into their "clean" driver. Patching moto_modem.c didn't work. You can read the whole thread here:Gmane Loom information how to use the 0451:d004 device (I guess it's for flashingand/or accessing the hardware directly) would still be very much appreciated![]()
