    Default Transfer data of hard disk without installing os.

    Info: dell studio 1558,dvd drive working but os installation stuck at expanding files 0 percent.having 4 drives on hd 100 gb(c) 150(e)100(g)107(h). Called dell he said to format the hd and have to do a fresh install but i dont want loose my data.i tried to make pen drve bootable but its saying cd/dvd device driver is missing.tried to run ubuntu w/t installation bt one drive was not showing (107gb-h) it showing like ts (369gb,107gb).i dont have external hd.my room mate having pc with so much hd space.

    solution needed:is there any way to backup my data to my frnds pc.

    Hey use ubuntu to backup all your data just boot and start ubuntu without installing .....
    then go to places then you will see complete harddisk at once and other drives too just it will just be accessible while if this does not help then

    Install ubuntu in the partition where you were trying to install Windows so it will surely allow to backup your DATA.... for sure it will do but I think you will get it work in normal only you will manage without installing.....

    hey just do 1 tng on strtup press delete & check out the firt drive to be loaded ie cd drive floppy or usb get usb done as 1st botable device & den use ur pendrive os mi8 wrk

    Search hiren's boot cd.

    And burn it on a cd.

    boot from it and select start mini xp.
    C115->c168->F3->E6->MILESTONE

    pupplinux also a good option u cant burn it in a pen drive and u can work out with it perfectly
