G1 & hero

Hi people,
I m a newbie in the Android arena, though i have been around with the linux and an the A 1200.
I own an HTC Hero which according to specifications is very similar to G1. Same OS, Processor and Display(resolution).
1) I want to confirm my understanding that the threads and apps posted in G1 section will be very much applicable to the Hero aswell.
2) Is there any one around using this make of phone
