Turn regular (rooted) G1 to Android Dev Phone 1!

Well as i posted early today G1 has released the Android Dev Phone G1.

All you need is to apply the attached update.zip (courtesy JesusFreke) to an already-hacked G1. Thats it. (It is signed with the test keys, so if you have JF's rc30 v1.2 it will Just Work.) But first.. a

If this goes wrong, you WILL DESTROY YOUR PHONE. Seriously. It will go PTHHTHTH. So don't interrupt it, don't let the battery die, etc.

Once its installed, boot with power+camera to see the Androids on Skateboards instead of the simple tri-color boot loader. (Where to go from there is the subject of a future post

Installation Instructions:

To repeat the instructions, download the attached file, extract it just to check if it downloaded fine. Rename the file to "update" as you have done for earlier updates and follow the same procedure Alt+L > Alt+S > you will be prompted to press Home+Back an reboot phone.

NOTE: IF YOU SCREW UP, THE PHONE WILL BRICK BEYOND REPAIR

So make sure the battery is full or more than 50% before you jump onto this. The process is faster than a regular update so it should take less than a minute to complete. The phone boots multiple times during the installation so don't freak out over that.

On completion, when the phone starts up fine, turn it off and press Camera + Power button to goto bootloader, you should see the pic posted on top. I did it an it worked with no problems.

No problem the only thing the Dev 1 does that this update for our G1 does not have,is you wont have an unlocked G1 to use any sim with like the dev 1 allows you to do.

OK... I know it'll only be a matter of time before that changes...
SOOOOO much in store for Android OS... it's gonna be fun.
