Jailbraking G1

Before you try any of this install the PTerminal which can be found in the market Terminal Emulator also will work.

O.k follow these 9 steps an you will have no problems.

1. Turn WiFi on (Settins>Wireless Controls>WiFi) make sure your connected to a network

2. Start up PTerminal or Terminal Emulator and you'll get a prompt once its launched.

3. Enter cd system and hit Enter.

4. Enter cd bin and hit Enter.

5. Enter telnetd and hit Enter. This starts telnet on your G1

6. Enter netstat and hit Enter. You'll now see your G1's IP address,you can also find this in settings>Wireless Controls>WiFi and click on your network your connected to an it will show you your IP.

7. Start up the terminal on your OS X machine or bring up the command prompt on your Windows os. Type telnet your IP you just got an hit Enter/Return. Should look like this telnet 192.168.1.101 Enter.

8. You are now logged in as Root To remount the system file as read write,type mount -oremount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system from the terminal/command propt an hit Enter.

9. Last step Enter Is /data an hit Enter an your done your G1 is now jailbroken.

does this method still work after the latest update ?

i am in india and im planning to get a G1 from the US .. please let me know if there would be any issues in terms of features or functions if i jail break it and use it here.

the biggest problem in india would be lack of 3G..

So far there is now way to jailbrake the phone after you recived the updates,but there are guys working hard trying to reverse the proccess. Ill keep this thread posted with new updates.

I dont have 3G in Danbury,CT but it will come soon. I use my Wifi when im home but i need 3G a.s.a.p.

RC19 would the first version an RC29 the second an RC30 which has the patch that stops you from jailbraking your phone. Try to get either RC19 or RC29.

To check:

First Settings>About phone>Buid number is what you need to look at there you wil see the RC number. In the picture you see mine has RC30 but i have a modded RC30 without the patch.

I'm located in India. I want to know if I can get one of my friends to pick up this phone in the USA and get it down here. If so, any ideas where to pick it up from? How much will be the approximate price, and should I get it hacked/cracked/jailbreak done there itself?

If you get one have the person make sure its RC29 an not RC30 reason being that it cant be jailbroken. An as far as getting it jailbroken an modded out there in the store never happens. I would get a RC29 or RC19 an mod it your self all the guides are here or will be very soon.

question if I bought a brandnew G1 next month is it automatically going to have the new update already installed? Is there a differance between The Dev1, and the t-mobile, wat I mean is do they come with differnent RC numbers

Well the dev one is rooted from factory also the bootloader is a dev bootloader which can be installed on any G1 also it uses any sim. The regular G1 can be unlocked as well but its less work with the dev1. Oh and the cool a$$ casing. Not all the new G1's come updated with the new build but now that all users can get root even if it has the update.
