LinLoader installation for E680i/A780

Thanks to all that have been so helpful here. I really do appreciate your time and effort.

However, I've been trying this on an A780 with no transflash card installed. I've tried just about every combination of the posted instructions that I can think of, but to no avail.

I'm very comfortable with Linux/Unix, having been a user of desktop Unixes since about 1985 (no kidding) -- which is one of the things that attracted me to the A780 in the first place. Nonetheless, I just can't seem to get this linloader to run on my A780.

A couple questions, please:

1) Is PlugCardDB even the right filename to use for a system that doesn't have a transflash (or SD) card loaded? If not, should I be using a different file/location? (The reason that I ask, other than not having a transflash card, is that my A780 did not have a PlugCardDB file when I started this process.)

2) In the PlugCardDB, I've tried each of the following:
Directory = loader
Directory = ../../../../diska/.system/QTDownLoad/loader
Directory = /diska/.system/QTDownLoad/loader
But none of these worked. Is there another entry that I should be using here?

3) Similarly, I've tried each of:
AllPosition = 27
AllPosition = 200
But none made a difference. What does this field do? Same for the Type field -- what is it?

Are there any other files that I need that haven't been discussed here?

if you dont have transflash card, then PlugcardDB is not relevant to you. PlugcardDB resides in the transflash card. if you really cant have a tranflash, then you have to install it in your phone. that requires telnet, because the A780 doesnt have .mtf.

can you telnet in? try following the procedure in the faq section. if you can telnet in, the db file for phone is in /ezxlocal/download/appwrite/am/InstalledDB and loader folder should be in /diska/.system/QTDownLoad/loader

I've succesfully install the Lin Loader but when I'd tried to open the "Theme Installer" it failed, nothing happened. Why ??

hehe nothing happen is not necessarily it doesnt work

you on a780 or e680i? e680i has built in .mtf installer, so you dont need it. but it can still be used. put a mtf into phone folder. then tap theme_installer.lin. close/reopen my favourites. new .lin files will be created with the theme names, corresponding to whatever mtf you have in phone's folder. tap on the lin that you want installed. close/reopen my favourites. tap on the final lin that is created. go to setup -> color scheme to change theme

Thanks for the help. That's exactly what I was afraid of with regards to the PlugCardDB file... Oh well, I ordered a small transflash card from buy.com, so I'll try again once it's in the A780.

And no, I don't yet have telnet to the system, but I'll work on that also.

Thanks again yantz, forgot to mentioned that I used A780 but I still don't understand about "mtf" what it stand for ?? Where can I read about "mtf" in this forum ?? Sorry a lot of questions, because I'm still a newbie in this.

mtf stands for motorola them file, its a renamed tar.gz file which was supposed to contain themes, but since we found its renamed tar.gz, we can use it for easy installation of other things too hehe.

Thanks a lot, I've managed installing the "Theme installer" but no picture appeared in the standby screen, what's wrong ?? Perhaps somebody can give me an advise ??

what do you mean no picture in stand by screen? you mean the wallpaper? wallpapers doesnt always get inherited from theme files, so you may have to select it manually from the setup -> wallpaper menu
