Re: symbian VS linux on smartphone
the moto A1000 and A1010 are smartphones and the moto E680/i/A780 are feature phones, so motorola not want that we could install native linux programms on thier linux phones, exept Java, because many other older and smaler phones can run java app's.
when i looked for a new phone after using a nokia 7650, i wanted one that has enough mem with a mem-card and a mp3 player, so i looked around and found the e680 as the best choice for me on that time(last december). also i was surprised when i saw its a linux phone and then i really wanted it, because nearly nobody has this phone in new zealand and switzerland and also it looks nice, so i bought it in singapore. in that time i never tought that is hackable and we can install apps natively and tune it.
the P910 with an big duo-mem-card was too expensive in last december that we could buy the e680 twice with 2 sd-cards for just one P910.
but is your decition to choose an A1000 or A1010 it debends wht you need or like. more native app's for symbian too. also i think these symbian phones are more for the business, the linux phones more for fun
one thing is that the e680/i has a 312Mhz cpu and that is good for watching movies with up to 30FPS by 320x240res(fullscreen) Divx with mp3 stereo sound without problems by using the ePlayer(mPlayer) natively. thats maybe not possible on these symbian and the rest of other phones.
i love my e680(not i) -with w-lan, UTMS and a better cam would it be perfect for me.
