Always flash to decent firmware ( you decide wich! ), already tested by trustable people, etc.
Be carefull, also about the overclocking stuff, that is overheating and killing the phone at long... This shouldn't be setup by default...
As you want to test and flash a lot of firmware, don't worry that much about the internal flash memory, it should be able to be re-flashed more than 10000 times... of course shit happens...
Regarding the filesystem itself, be carefull too, modders are able to change it too ( heh, amongs a lot of others things ) , note that using swap memory located on internal flash will kill it in short term!
Also using un-appropriated fylesystem for the AP fw can be very bad!! My recomendation for the filesystem would be to stuck with cramfs, or even ubifs, jffs2, yaffs, that uses "wear leveling", unionsfs has great functionality but haven't been tested afaik... BUT only flash compiant filesystem, not ext3 for example, that is perfect for hard-disks, but will damage the flash chip very fast.
Well, after this said, have fun with your nice smartphone/gadgect , take care of it!
Maybe do a BP backup with muromec's tool (new and amazing! ), as you may do "unpropers update" from a track to another, or something bad when you flash a full AP+BP fw?
Say developer, but it's so hard!
