To add, I know that flash might be a solution but I am looking for an educated solution than just flashing my phone.
Thanks!
Hi folks,
This issue has been surfacing since this month for me. I always used my Rokr as a modem and never faced problem. However, since the past 10 days or so my Rokr E6 hangs the moment I connect it as a modem. I did a quick round of googling and found out many other people who were facing the same issue. I haven't found any posts/forums with a concrete solution to it.
I have updated my MPT. I haven't flashed etc. and not updated the firmware.
Please let me know if there is any solution for the same.
Thanks !
To add, I know that flash might be a solution but I am looking for an educated solution than just flashing my phone.
Thanks!
you see, that could be difficult. You may need to trace your steps: what's changed on PC/phone recently?
It's very difficult to pin-point off hand.
And since flashing is usually the last resort-sometimes it is the quickest solution. Maybe I'm a little hypocritical here though; I say this because I've never done a full flash to my phone.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I understand it is difficult to pin point BUT to be very honest, nothing has changed on my phone. I don't play with my Rokr at all. The only thing to be changed is data on the memory card and I can't ratiocinate that to effect the phone in any sort of hardware issues.
I don't think it's a coincidence that few other people too are facing the issue. Check these links:
My Motorola Rokr E6 is getting hang now a days. I tried removing...

I guess there's some issue going around with it since a month now.
Anyways, I have seen the sticky on this forum on flashing, is it exhaustive?
Which would be the best firmware for me to retrograde OR upgrade too?
Can a master / data reset be deliberated as a viable solution?
Do let me know, Thanks!
Well, now I ain't the only one in this forum with the same issue.

Hi, this might be a silly question but how can we get to know which firmware we are using.
You could try a master reset, but I'm not certain that it will change anything, making it more hassle trying to reconfigure you personal preferences.
Unfortunately I do not own an E6, but rather an A1200, so I cannot assist you in your choice of firmware. I for one do not like 'non-generic'. It's fine, as long as everything looks generic (i.e. startup image, skins, wallpapers etc), anything extra I prefer to rather 'add on' and this way, extend on a stable 'foundation'. But that's just me.
I've recently found my one USB port that my cable was permanently attached to decided to pack up. Now I assume you aren't facing problems with your USB, but it won't harm to just test your other ports.
Also, you could try removing all the drivers and Motorola PhoneTools (all traces of E6) so that you can start afresh as if your phone is new and has never been connected to your PC.
Good luck!

Thanks mate!
I am not facing issues with my USB ports tried plucking my phone all over.
I am sure this must have some issue. How can one explain then that it hangs as a modem with no change in hardware? And as seen in the forum I ain't the only one.
Anyways, could you please let me know how to remove the Motorola Drivers from my laptop.
I would also like to enable EDGE on my mobile. Any pointers/suggestions towards the same would be great.
Thanks once again.
I'm not at my pc now so my steps may be wrong. If you installed any driver 'package' just check if there's anything in your start menu & uninstall, also uninstall phonetools.
On XP you'd right-click 'my computer' > properties > hardware tab > device manager. Then there you must search for anything motorola related under the 'headings'. You may only see a specific device when phone is connected (try memory card mode - probably you'll see some sort of flash drive & if you can modem), anything relating to the phone: right-click > properties > then look for uninstall driver (there should be a button near the top for uninstall, so you may not need to right-click).
You may not even see anything related and all was already removed with phonetools, but in case you've installed other drivers - they may remain. Anyways, if you cleared all and reinstall moto phonetools you should need to detect your phone again - if your modem mode is still hanging you probably will struggle; if even succeed in detecting the phone.

edge is very simple, I'll help you out with that likely tomorrow - it's almost midnight here, so tomorrow isn't far.
The stickies should help, but sometimes it's alot to take in if you're a little unsure.
