Guide to firmware modding

I m having ROKR E6 since last 12 months. I have flashed it for 3 times with new firmware. Now i also want to use my creativity to make our E6 more enjoyable. I want to know how can i modify my firmware? How can i open .sbf files? Which editors should i use for it?
Pls help.

Hi, recently I too learnt how to modify firmware. You need a software called Ezx Codec to modify Code groups of firmware in Windows OS environment. You can find my modified firmware under E6 firmware thread.
I modified 09p firmware of jimkid2002 according to my needs.

and how do i create an sbf file from my exsting firmware...

think that was the first question i asked after getting my MotoMing - since i was able to make a .sbf for my V3x (think it was with motobackup 0.2 or motokup 0.2 sounds more correct - well..something 0.2 i think)...
but, alas, no solution - maybe now there is.
but since i couldn't backup my firmware, I've never bothered to flash - anycase - i'm able to do everything anyhows.
