Set the Carrier Key to Launch Any Application

The carrier key in motorokr E6 starts the browser by default. However you can change it to any application you want.
I found a script on MF to do it the hard way. However there is an easier way to do it.
You need to either have telnet enabled (or samba) or have ekonsole to do this hack.

Example -- Suppose you want to set the carrier key to launch Real Player.

Set Shortcut Number 4 to "Real Player" from "Home Screen Setup"

Execute this 2 commands

cp /ezx_user/download/appwrite/setup/ezx_idle.cfg /mmc/mmca1/

Code:

cp /ezx_user/download/appwrite/setup/ezx_hardkey.cfg /mmc/mmca1/

Plug the phone in the USB port of PC in "Mass Storage Mode"
Open both ezx_idle.cfg and ezx_hardkey.cfg in notepad++ (or metapad etc..).
Copy the 32 digit code (along with hyphens etc..) from Shortcut No. 4 line in ezx_idle.cfg to the careerkey line in ezx_hardkey.cfg.
Restart the phone. Pressing your carrier key will now launch realplayer..
ENJOY !!

The logic is that you just need to put the code for any application you want to launch in ezx_hardkey.cfg. This code is available in ezx_idle.cfg once you setup the shortcut to that particular application

well probably becuz ther eis an application that does it here , witch is probably easier to use ..

Did you do this your self via Samba or Telnet ? becuz I believe it is not possible to save modifed files in the E^ , it is possible in the A1200 but not in the E6 .. IF you know how to modify files from the E6 thru telnet / samba please let us/me knopw how , since nobody thta I heard of was succesful doing so . I heard someone talkin about privileges and rigths, but even as system admin it wont work .

I have been successful DAGr8, I modified ezx_idle.cfg to unlock all shortcuts using eKonsole on my E6 f/w R533_G_11.12.08P. This is a stock f/w which came with the phone, and it has everything like EQ, vibrate and ring,etc which others discuss in other threads. So I don't feel the need to flash any other modded f/w.

Haven't tried the above one yet, but I'm sure it will be done.

Here's how u can do it ...
Install ekonsole and busybox.
Open ezx_idle in vi (using busybox) on ekonsole and edit it

Did it through telnet.

One thing I found was that you need to unlock the shortcut (freeze=0) and only then we can set the carrier key to the unlocked shortcut.

Fer example, i wanted to set my carrier key to real player, which is shortcut no 1, so first i had to unlock it to make it work.

You can modify and replace the files of ezx_user folder through telnet.
