Many thanks Asheesh for exploring!
Have just tuned it on -
is that four-digit number under the name of Cellular Provider and Date - this cell ID?
How it can be used?
Please excuse if this has been posted before.... I thought this will be useful.
1. Go to message screen.
2. Select “Service Setup” from the options using the button on the left bottom screen.
3. Select “Info Service” option.
4. Turn the service on.
5. Go to “Active Channels” option.
6. Select “Delete Channel” option using the button on the left bottom screen and delete existing channel.
7. Select “Add Channel” option.
8. Type 50 and add the channel (Channel: 50).
9. Save and exit.
10. You got the Cell Info on your ROKR E6 working now!

well depends on the country. Here in Asia ( I am from India ), channel 50 is used to send the cell info to the handset... which here in our country is the cell name that the operators broadcast....
this is a good way to have some kinda local GPS information to know which
area/street of the city are you in. The name is typically the area name of the GSM tower your cell phone is under.
just add to my previous post... the cell name gets displayed in the home screen just above the short cut icons at the bottom
Yeah, that's what I get. Many thanks again. Now I'm just trying to figure out what is the use of it...
unless I have disclosed info on all Vodafone broadcasting spots in UK linked to Global Positioning datain that case I woould be able to use it instead of GPS, ehehehe. I just wonder whether a common customer has an acces to such an info

Tha thankees again.
hey.
it wrked for me..tho took some hrs for the info to get displayed.
thanks anyway
yes a common customer does have access to this info as it is nothing but the area names where your service provider nearest tower to you is. ie. the cell your are currently roaming under..
a lot of applications ( which i used to use in symbian in my SE P900 previously) used to use this info and call themselves the GPS application !
its a free GPS for us![]()
Was your phone hooked to a specific operator ? I dont see otherwise why you should not be allowed to change the channel.
