    Default Making phone visible

I'm toying with an A780 can anyone point me in the right direction on activating bluetooth visibility/discoverability?

I've got linloader / usbmode and i've been telnetting onto the phone and looking in /proc /dev etc for anything which I could pipe into or programs to run to make it visible.

currently the possibilities I have are:
    /usr/SYSbt/ezx_bt
    /dev/ttyS2

now i'm finding it difficult, if anyone knows their way around this system and can point me in the right direction that'd be great!

use the bluez utilities if you want user-space control over bluetooth (the native apps such as ezx_bt, and sub-apps that it runs, don't offer the flexibility of bluez, and for what they do offer you will have to reverse engineer the syscalls to figure out what they are doing).

is bluez at a working stage? and does it need to run in place of the naitive apps, or can it coexist (with me just using it to make the phone visible etc?)

will I lose interaction between the gui & bluetooth? (will bluez still ask me for pins and alert me about connections?)

Would it be possible for someone to see what happens when bluetooth is on and you set it to discoverable ob an E680/A780? (what files are accessed, and what programs are run?) That's beyond my ability at the min, and it seems some have got debugabble phones around here.

With the results of that I'd be able to create script to just set the phone to discoverable, and have that runnable from the main screen, that'd be the first step.

strace is your friend for this, but its not at all easy. i did for the e680i more than a year ago and the main bluetotooth app isn't problem, but it calls sub apps and does a bunch of forking/threading and its a real pain in the butt; if all you want is to make the phone discoverable, trust me, its much easier to do this with the standard gui app than trying to do it any other way.

I suppose you're right, I just need a phone that's visible all the time, or very easy to activate, lesser motorola's had a shortcut facility which could use "find me" as a shortcut, this seems to be missing on the A780

can a java applet make the phone discoverable? (then quit) that could be a single icon on the menu then.

unfortunately this wouldn't work for e680, e680i or a780 as their java kvms do not support bluetooth (jsr-82), it is supposedly supported for the a1200 but i haven't tried yet.
