Default Native Development (I Got Montavista Graphics Package)

    Hello there everybody

i have got a montavista graphics package 3.1 for Montavista CEE 3.1. i installed Montvista Linux CEE 3.1 on my winxp (cygwin) and i create wonderfull binaries without any prob. i think everyone or most of the ppl here already have it....however what you guys might not have is the graphic package from MOntavista that can be used to create GUI.. a native GUI !!!

i am willing to share the package here so that i can also get some help as i have never created Linux GUI before. it uses standard GTK+, GNOME, Matchbox Window Manager, TinyX, Tslib and much more...i think using gnome, gtk etc we should be able to create normal GUI. in there documentation which also i will provide u guys, u can see an installation instruction which is quite good and without any problem u should be able to install it. however, in developer portion the documentation simply points you to the website www.gtk.org or www.gnome.org etc for further info.. so basically i started using the tutorial on that website but i am sure i am missing some kinda configuration or settings due to which i am not able to create a simple hello world application.

so if someone here is interested in creating or trying to create a native development i can ftp it to u or to the dark side forum...but someone who has got time to do this will be really good...or much better someone with some experience in native GUI development... !!

the graphics package is two ISO image files that u can burn to the CD or simply mount directly from ISO to install it to your Environment.. but u need to have Montavista CEE 3.1 installed...

if you reply to this msg, please let me know where you have installed montavista linux CEE 3.1. is it on your linux or on Windows..? i used windows...

    Hm...

GTK and X11 apps running on an EZX phone sounds cool. I have a few questions. Have you compared this mvista toolkit to GPE? Does the TinyX work out of the box, or how much porting is required? What all does it include that is non-redistributable? Would we have to do anything to avoid having derivative apps tainted?

It would certainly be an amusement to have an X server on a phone, and might make it easier to port certain desktop apps. There hasn't been much mention of GPE on this forum, perhaps due to its immaturity. It would still be pretty darn cool to see a port, and OPIE could do with some healthy competition.

A good first challenge might be to see about getting TinyX to interoperate with the built-in windowsserver like Cyph's opieproxy.

On the other hand, there is a strong instant-gratification factor to writing Qt/E apps for the existing EZX environment.

well after you get the toolkit and you install it, read the user guide with it which should answer alot of questions. TinyX should work ryt away but there could be some kernel configurations to do for it.. not sure..i think we cannot distribute it although it contains all these open source tools but montavista is gonna come straight to my Ass if it got leaked... i dont know how much useful this could be, but lets start working on it..

After you have installed it, help me compile a simple hello world program after which we can move further and start compiling other projects...

i will private msg you and we can arrange some ftp for this..

if someone else is interested in this development, private msg me.

I screwed around a while back with Xqt on the phone and got it working, but it was buggy and not all X applications were working right. I compiled it against the qt-libs that had already been patched by Cyph and (like the Opie env) it worked well to switch betwen X and the native ezx interface.

Hopefully now that Cyph has gotten an openembedded/bitbake based build working a working/stable X/GPE environment shouldn't be too far behind. Plus, since Cyph got it started, he has already included his opie-proxy patch stuff to the qt sources, so an ezx-openembedded build of GPE should include his proxy as well.

    sorry to get off topic...

    @mudassar
I would love to play around w/ this stuff, but betwen my noob abilities w/ this stuff and lack of time i'm kind of stuck. I wish you all the best of luck, and when I can I will contact you regarding the SDK!!
