incomplete A780 kernel source code

The only missing thing is source code for TransFlash driver (mmc).
Source code that pascal requested was packed for E680i phone. E680i has mmc code built as module so I think that's why motorola didn't include it in package (like any other module - gprsv, tffs..). drivers/mmc directory is missing and you can see it commented out in Makefile.
A780 has this driver compiled into kernel image, so this is GPL stuff and Motorola must provide source code. Motorola built ezx_mmc driver upon GPL licensed mmc driver API.

To be able to use own kernel modifications - enchance compiled in driver functionality, overclock cpu etc. - we need mmc driver. I'm already running custom compiled kernel on my phone for the last 2 weeks, but without TF.

As I remember pascal received package from HongKong Motorola unit. Maybe there are volunteers from HK who wants to request A780 source code now? I think it would be faster, less misunderstandings and no additional customs charges.

Yes. In that case, I think we can definitely demand for A780 source code. pascal asked for E680 sources, so the A780 sources were just a nice "add-on". I think someone should go ask for A780 sources specifically, otherwise we can never recompile our own kernel for it.

We might be able to bring this matter up to Harald Welte. Besides owning an A780, he is also the driving force behind http://www.gpl-violations.org/ and he has dealt with Motorola before.

While someone's at it they should request the source for the bootloader too, its based on BLOB so GPL too.

I'm looking for the source to the gprsv module -- which, as you say, is not included with the e680 kernel... I suppose this doesn't have to be made available because it's a module...? I thought GPL would require it because it's linked with the base kernel.

I'm really trying to understnad how the GPRS module works, because I would like to run my own PPP over GPRS, instead of the Motorola GUI gprs connection... Does anybod know how GPRS works on the device?

No. They only link the module with the kernel. So they do not need to release the code.

First, it's not thransflash reader but just transflash mmc driver second, i hope you've read the thread about pascal's experience requesting E680 source
