    accessing my sd card trough usb is 10 times faster how accesing phone through usb

    in opie is an app which calculates memory transfer rates, perhaps you could compare rates with and without swap

    Thanks intoxicated for reposting the zip-file. But It would be nice with the source code too. Cyph, are you okay with people rehosting your files? Perhaps I can help, I have access to some bandwith I'm not really using right now.

    @pascal
    If this really means that the phones builtin memory is that much slower, that is interesting. We could gain an enormous performance-boost if we just re-route the phone to only use SD card memory instead...

    WOW! I leave the forum for 3 days, and now you have OPIE and EZX working at the same time!! Great work cyph!!!

    Yes, please mirror the files. I don't have much uplink on my home server. Its only about 25k/s and that is contested over by bittorent, my brother's multiplayer games and you guys

    @rhizod:
    If you understand the linux vm, swap is used to back anonymous (malloc and COW pages). So swap will definitely improve performance. My swap currently runs at 27mb used with Opera, Realplayer and opieconsole running.

    Btw, I am in the army now(posting via GPRS). So won't be updating anything during weekdays. Hopefully you guys can get more things working right. Seems that OPIE still thinks its on an IPAQ, trying to find the non-existant CF card and the MMC card in the wrong places. It will be nice to have OPIE customized fully for e680i. How's the OpenEmbedded effort coming along? It will be cool to use it to build some dependencies to be able to build the rest of the OPIE applications. Or maybe even build OPIE with the modified Qt with it too.

    Some of the OPIE applications are also kind of unstable. I believe this is due to OPIE running in a foreign environment. Anyone has an IPAQ with OPIE to compare against? Looking at the sources, I see that some programs still hardcode paths inside that are only available on the IPAQ or Familiar distribution.

    just tried ezx-opie on my friend's a780
    for a780 the sounds comes out directly without going through the earphone plug/unplug..
    maybe two phones has different way in handling sounds?

    Thanks for explaining. I don't really have enough background in Linux swap to understand what you are saying. But I suppose you mean that if there is swap available, some generated data structures are stored which othervise would have to be regenerated, costing performance.

    The thing that worries me if people are starting to use opie regularly now that they can, is that flash memory wears out after a set number of writes (rather high though). The phones fs is specialized to deal with this I think, but the regular linux swap fs is not, so it might do quite a lot of writes. And for the usual phone memory I suppose there is some ordinary, lost on poweroff, memory that "never" wears out?

    I'm not so sure, but I think MMCs comes with wear levelling logic builtin. Anyways, my ezx-opie package only writes to the MMC, so if that goes, then you can toss it out

    Nice to hear that it works on the A780. I guess it has different defaults for the sound output paths. See my previous message on some ioctls you can find in the kernel for an explanation.

    Here is a mirror of the ezx-opie.zip I got from intoxicated. It should have good bandwith, or else I am not getting what I pay for but not normally use
    ----> ezx-opie.zip <---

    @cyph
    Sure, one can always replace the mmc/sd if it actually wears out. Btw, it may be that it is mostly CF cards that has built in wear levelling.

    i've been trying some of the stuff from X/QT from http://xqt.sourceforge.jp/ but I get relocation errors and need to try and recompile it.

    To compile new apps (either XQT or opie) against your modified qt libs do I have to make the same patches you did and recompile qt-2.3.10, or can I simply copy your qt libs from the opie.cramfs then compile the new app against these libs? In addition to xQt I would like to build a few opie apps that aren't included in your cramfs (e.g. powerchord or some of the example apps)

    If I have to have my own build of the qt libs, can you make your latest opieproxie.tar.bz2 file available? (i cannot access your download web page, can you make it available as an attachment here?)

    thanks again!!

    You should be able to use the standard Qt 2.3.10 headers. Just use the libs provided with my OPIE distribution when running. I am not sure what happened to my web server, but will look into it when I am back this weekend. Good luck anyways. Hope you suceed!
