I did some research sometime back and came across a SD card which claimed it ran on linux too. But it was SDIO card and from what I gather E6 doesn't support that

This is wrong.
E6 is very similar with a1200, and we have a high productive developer working on a1200.

Not to mention that e680 is almost fully supported on 2.6 now, so E680 will be the first EZX phone to support SDIO.
