    Project Description:

J2ME KEYMAPPING PROJECT will allow Motorola A780 users to map the controls for java apps/games that work with the E680i. This will allow us the ability to install more apps/games specifically made for the E680i.

The completion of this project shoud provide us with comprehensive documentation including screenshots and step by step instructions to accomplish this.

This thread should help us get a start. All of the documentation has been taylored for the E680i including screenshots. Here are the button codes for the A780:

    -1 = joystick up
    -1 = side-slider up
    -2 = joystick down
    -2 = side-slider down
    -3 = joystick left
    -4 = joystick right
    -5 = click joystick
    -5 = camera
    -5 = voice recognition

You can also use PongAtor V0.0.1 to get the codes. It should work on all other Java-phones.

Please send the codes from E680i to get a mapping of the codes. Maybe I will write a HowTo after that. But I think the E680i has more possibilities, cause the A780 has only 5 different codes (up-down-left-right-press). Buts lets wait for someone to test the E680i.

I don't think you can do much with just 5 keys..

That is why I didn't get to this earlier. Any game that can be played with 5 keys can be ported easily... but I think any such game that has been ported to e680i (or maybe even the un-ported version) will work in a limited fashion already.

I wonder why motorola didn't map all the keys.

If the solution could also be ported or extended to include the a1200 keys I would be happy to throw in another $20

There are alot of decent games that only need the directions, select and a soft key or two...

Here are the key codes for the a1200 according to the GetKey program:

    -1 = joystick up
    -2 = joystick down
    -3 = joystick left
    -4 = joystick right
    -5 = click joystick
    -30 = volume +
    -31 = volume -

So we will have to write a mapper to use the pen as keys. So we have to define several areas on the display to represent a key. But it will be a little tricky to do that.

Is this project closed? And if it has been completed, please post the link of the thread with the documentation or howto

It isn't closed. I guess we haven't thrown enough money add it to attract enough attention.
