New Zealand localisation?

Hey guys, I am in New Zealand right now and thinking of buying the motorola milestone/droid from oversea. Most likely the milestone version. But I have some questions about the issues I might face and possible solutions.

Like for example if I buy the phone in China, the GPS system is most likely to be set to maps on China. Is there a way to change the GPS maps to New Zealand etc? Loading files onto the mem.card ? If so where can I get those files.

And perhaps what other issues might I encounter and solve?
