While Motorola is seeking a breakthrough with its Android platform-based smartphone, it plans to launch several Android phones by this year. The company confirmed that it plans to roll it out in Korean markets in the first quarter of next year.
"The Android phone will be the first smartphone showing up in the Korea market, and it will may be released in early next year," S.Y. Lim, spokesperson of Motorola Korea said to Telecoms Korea.
Regarding the possibility of launching the Android phone this year simultaneously with the global market, Lim said, "It will be somewhat difficult, and more important than timing is how competitive of a product it will be."
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled its first Android phone for the global market, and plans to launch it in the European market next month. Samsung also plans to release its Android phone to the local market. A Samsung spokesperson said to Telecoms Korea, "The release time depends on mobile operators' decision. We are ready for it anytime." LG Electronics also plans to launch an Android phone in the market.
