I have that phone. One question: is it a CDMA only phone? I'm located in Europe and it cannot get the network with my SIM cards.
From RC i got these infos on the fw:
    Setup: GAI_GENERIC_INT_BARBADOS_S063
    Language: EZXBASE_N_00.34.A4I_0003A
    Resource: GAI_GENERIC_RELSEZXBASE_EZXBASE_N_00.34.A4I_R003
    SecureSetup: GAT_GENERIC_TESTBARBADOS_E016

Well, it would be interesting for a modder, but i don't suggest you to flash it yet before having a confirmation it will work...
E895 is a well known phone in china, i think, but is pretty rare in europe or in the US...

Do you have the flash mode, you? With this mode, i could actually telll you how to backup the working firmware, then we could experiment safely....

Also, if you can insert a sim card, it's a GSM phone, CDMA don't work with SIM cards!! So your phone may be locked...??

Yes, I can enter in flash mode. The boot module is BOOT_G_00.01.60R_EZX_AP_P3.

Looking at the software, there is an icon with a white Y inside a red circle labelled "Y Portal". There are 3 themes: Moto, CMCC and UNICOM. 4 languages: eng, spanish, french and portugues. In the keypad there is a Vodafone logo, but you're right probably is locked to be used with a specific operator. Just to add some additional infos, the covers are brown and the camera is a 1.3MP. The speed seems faster if compared to the A910.

So, please, explain me how to backup the firmware, so we can experiment & share the infos with the rest of the community.

Heh, unfortunately, the largest E895'users community i know is approx. 6 persons!!

For backing up you fw, you could use http://www.motorolafans.com/MotoModF...ckup_a1200.rar

And then analyse (or send me ) the resulting files.

OpenEZX tools now also provide some backup solution from a linux computer.
    http://wiki.openezx.org/Backups
( download a linux live CD/ live usb thumb drive like http://www.elivecd.org/ or http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html, if you don't want to install anything and change your computer -safe- )
It is bootusb and genblob a ramloader, and a second stage bootloader that will most probably work on you phone.
They will backup the firmware easily, if you follow the tutos:
For an OpenEZX overview guide, http://wiki.openezx.org/Getting_Started
Genblob is meant to be use for a dual boot ezx phone, but you will see it has a lot of other usages. http://wiki.openezx.org/Dual_boot
Backup are (finally) described there, maybe you can just jump on that page right now and have a ubuntu live CD do the rest! http://wiki.openezx.org/Backups

Even from windows but i wouldn't franckly recomend for the sake of the backup files on windows, the backup is very experimental!!
    http://www.motorolafans.com/forums/d...nezx-more.html.
Tools in binary form are shared on post #8 , note also that phonetools cannot actually re-flash a full backup, but it should be able to do a backup! (again, it's in test phase, quite experimental! )

Actually i think your fw is maybe faster because it don't support all the functionalities of the A910 ( wlan chip...) but in fact i know a very few about E895... So it could be a tuned E2 fw / hw as well?
Well, E895 is the EZx codename "barbados" ( i'm quite sure...) and some infos can be found on the last kernel's source code release at http://www.sourceforge.motorola.com ( the one for A1200E LATAM ( i know they are very different phones!! it's moto!) ).

Unfortunatly it seems that the TF is not seen be the phone.
I've tried the flashbackup a1200 program on an E6 and with that phone it worked correctly. The program generated ~76MB of outputs of the fw. Also on A910 is working. I'll try to see again with another brand/size TF on the Barbados.

I've downloaded a Knoppix live DVD and booted a Pc with it to try the backup of the phone. I've transferred via USB key the boot_usb and gen-blob file on the ramdisk of the linux box. Now I've connected the phone in boot mode and run the commands:
    boot_usb setflag usb
    boot_usb gen-blob 0

    I've got the message:
    Uploading kernel 100%
Warning, param is not supported on your phone, please consider using gen-blob
    Calling the kernel...
    Done

the display of the phone shows:
    openEZX blob 090504
    USB Ready.

    Then I''ve run the command:

    ./boot_usb read 0 67108864 firmware.bin

    obtaining the fw dump.
So, I think the backup step is done. Just some doubts, related to the warning message, but maybe is not a big problem. What do you think?

    Pretty good!
Yeah, you seem to have a backup as far as i can tell!
And you were right, the warning is quite normal, bootusb tell you the original flash mode don't support parameters, so for booting an alternative linux kernel, you will need to have the secondary bootloader genblob, loaded!

How long did it took? I seem to remember that was _at least_ 40 minuts here... Well, i could check again...

The process was quite fast, no more that 5/6 minutes.
One question: what is the correct procedure to flash the file back on the phone? Is it:

    ./boot_usb flash 0 firmware.bin

Will the bootloader overwritten by this 64MB file? Or is it at another location? I've read the Dual Boot GEN2 - OpenEZX document, but is not so clear, since it's referring to flash the other loader and is doing the backup from 0xA0000 location. I've not found the instruction to replace the original phone fw.

6 minuts... i doubt it is a full backup...

It seems good, yes. But actually i think it would be better to double check your backup file first.

the correct procedure for reflash is described when you type "./boot_usb" without any argument.
And also, bootusb is securised, so it will not allow ( or warn you??) to flash at the first 640k ( approx. , i'm not totally sure how far the protection goes, as i never had to face it! ) of the flash chip of the device...
You will need either to use an "unsecured" bootusb or rsdlite...

Anyway, you really shouldn't need to change the first 640k's of your device, it's useless, and very dangerous!! , except some really exceptionnals hacks, ( on the kernel CMDLINE, or on the bluetooth stuffs ... and i don't know if these changes really works ... ) .
