Hi, this should certainy be possible:
1. it is already done on other linux based moto phones.
2. In the firmware there already is a menu item to select different themes, although ofcourse they currently do not exist.
I have been looking around the filesystem and i think i know where most of the theme instances are, and therefore by assocation where the 'new' ones would need to go.
However, I've encountered a few problem that because of my lack of linux knowledge stop me from progressing further:
a) I read that on other linux based phones the directory containing themes information is set at a certain size (using phone memory) and this has a limit to how 'big' it can be, therefore putting more themes in here may go beyond this limit.
b) anytime you write anything to the filesystem you come up against the permissions problem. This is understandable because if motorola had allowed access to this area then it would be very easy to brick the phone.
Therefore the way to do it is to decompile the firmware, find out which CG contains the themes, add the new themes, recompile and then load the new CG via RSDLite. Or better still to put the new thems on the SD card and then find some way to referencing those file via the firmware.
So what on other (P2K) motos is a fairly striaght forward easy problem it becomes a major headache with JUIX/Linux phones. Don't you just love linux!!!
Oh, and by the way, the neatest way (at the moment) to decompile/recompile is to do it on a linux system. There is something call Cywin which involves loading a virtual linux environment to a windows system but it is a long laborours process; like i said, don't you just love Linux !
