Need advise on how to test an a780 before buying

Hello I'm a bit new to Motorola Fans.
I actually have no experience with Motorola phones aside from the ancient phones that has no sim cards and it has no sms yet.

I am planning to buy a phone from ebay. It would cost around 175 dollars. I would be the third owner if the deal is successful.

I am quite new to the forums. I am very much awed by the openezx project that is why I am really looking forward to buying an ezx phone with a special affinity towards the a780.

I got an idea on how I would check dead pixels. I was planning to use a similar method like the one they use for the psp http://www.pspsolution.com/downfile1 maybe change the picture dimensions to the phone's resolution.

How about hardware problems, bad firmware upload, or any other problems that I could inspect upon receiving the item. I could not choose the model. I'm hoping it is a european model that it may have gps. And at least be sure that I would not have bought an expensive paperweight.
