A780 vs E680i

I'm curious about the few differences between these two phones.

More specifically:

1. Pre-loaded games on A780
2. Do most appz for E680i work on A780 - java and non-java developed
3. 3D sound on A780? - E680i has the 3D sound and graphics, does it really look and sound so different?
4. VPN client on A780? I guess that depends on firmware, i'd like to know if it's available
5. Max external memery? - the E680i supports up to 2GB, how about the A780?
6. No radio on A780? - wasn't listed in the specs but I wonder
7. Browser - E680i has the Opera 7.5 and A780 has Opera 7?
8. Is it possible to make/answer calls without opening flip? - this is important!

If anyone can point a few more notable differences I'd appreciate it...I"m trying to decide between the two phones!!!

Well myself is a fan of flip phones,

1) when I got my phone it had 3 asian games and english game

2) from what i've read most apps work on a780

At the moment there are 1 Gb. Transflash cards for the A780, they are difficult to find but they do exist.

And... although it has no fm radio it supports internet radio (for some unknown reason streaming is only supported by audio, not by video), which is not very useful due to the money you spend when listening to it.

i think A780 is a cool phone.i like it man.
but every phone have something special.
so if you have enough money.buy both.hehehehe....

I think by now you would've bought the phone you decided on. Anyway, these were the 2 phones I was deciding on before I got myself an A780 cos it looks nicer and has keypads so that making calls single-handedly without using the touchscreen (useful when driving) and also to avoid scratching the precious screen with fingernails.

Anyway, for info on those still yet to make a decision :
1. Pre-loaded games on A780
- 3 Java games (SWAT, Basketball and Knivel). I read from the Motorola website that some come with 2 java games and one Kingsoft J2ME Dictionary (I would much prefer that).

2. Do most appz for E680i work on A780 - java and non-java developed
- Not really due to lack of two buttons at the bottom of the screen on A780. So far, I found JewelMiner and BrainChallenge work provided you don't go into the settings which would prompt you to press any buttons at the bottom to continue. Some java games (which is stated as compatible with A780) can be played but without the touchscreen capability.

3. 3D sound on A780? - E680i has the 3D sound and graphics, does it really look and sound so different?
- I don't have E680i so can't be sure. But the Audio files played on my A780 sounds as great as on the E398. It was earlier very soft but after continuous pressing and pushing of the 'jog-dial' button the sound volume improves considerably. After that I found that I can play *.wma files but not *.wav anymore. However, video files are still very soft.

4. VPN client on A780? I guess that depends on firmware, i'd like to know if it's available
- Mine is the Asian version that comes with EDGE and VPN. Haven't used them yet though.

5. Max external memery? - the E680i supports up to 2GB, how about the A780?
- Read somewhere that A780 can use both Transflash and MicroSD cards. Also, 2GB Sandisk MicroSD cards seem to work fine on A780. I haven't a card to try becos I'm waiting for prices to go down further before getting one. As there're not many apps/games for it yet, I found 128MB card is sufficient for the time being.

6. No radio on A780? - wasn't listed in the specs but I wonder
- All A780 doesn't have radio.

7. Browser - E680i has the Opera 7.5 and A780 has Opera 7?
- I'm not sure which version of Opera is on mine.

8. Is it possible to make/answer calls without opening flip? - this is important!
- Big YES. Can even read messages/reply messages, use Realplayer and access the Recent Calls list.

Well, by default, some may not work because of key-mapping difference. However, key-mapping of most appz can be modified...even java appz...there's a thread somewhere for this.

3. 3D sound on A780? - E680i has the 3D sound and graphics, does it really look and sound so different?
Graphics ain't different....loudspeaker sound in E680i is much better...but headset sound is the same.

5. Max external memery?
E680i supports 2GB...but I've used a SanDisk 4GB card and it worked...A780 supports 512MB...but I'm using a 1GB card and it works flawlessly....even tried a SanDisk 2GB card...it works, but sometimes the file manager runs a bit slower

7. Browser - E680i has the Opera 7.5 and A780 has Opera 7?
Both E680i and A780 use Opera 7.5 to 8 for EZX.

the 680 is tri band (unless there is a seem edit somewhere i dont keep up with the 680) where the 780 is quad band.

Just an update - got myself a 1GB Toshiba MicroSD card (with 5 years warranty). Seems to work fine (no noticeable lagging), but one funny thing is when I chose the wallpaper to a jpg file located on the card, it would always revert to the one of the default ones in the phone upon startup (no such problem with my earlier 128MB Sandisk Transflash). Since I'm lazy to find out why, I just moved all the wallpaper pics to the phone folder and it solved the problem. Any smart guy around who knows why?
