Thread: A780 with unicode

  1. Default A780 with unicode

    Hi all,

I have modified A780 firmware to addin unicode.

Here is the list of what I have done:

Motorola's font can display following languages:
    Western
    Japanese
    Chinese_GB2312
    Chinese_BIG5

ThreeSearch's unicode font can display following languages:
    Western
    Japanese
    Chinese_GB2312
    Chinese_BIG5
    Hebrew
    Arabic
    Greek
    Turkish
    Baltic
    Central European
    Cyrillic
    Thai
    Vietnamese
    International Phonetic Alphabet

With ThreeSearch's unicode font, all languages are now under one roof.

My font also supports International Phonetic Alphabet. http://www.arts.gla.ac.uk/ipa/ipa.html

Now you can install any dictionary with phonetic in your A780! Go to http://dictionarymid.sourceforge.net to download or setup your dictionary.

I created a link to "Startup" folder in /diska/.system. If you have any script need to be run when the phone starts such as Neo's startup.lin or startup_tone.sh, you can create a folder named "Startup" in /diska/.system folder and put those scripts there.

This modified cg33 included auto telnet when usb cable plugged in (acmattach.txt), silivo's bash2, nano...

I also modified acm_fd.agent to auto backup native database (addressbook + sms) to memory card when usb cable plugged in. The phone will backup native database to /mmc/mmca1/.system/backup/sysDatabase folder. If this folder does not exist, it will be created automatically. You can use restore-native.lin to restore native database from memory card later on.

Please go to http://vllp.sourceforge.net to know where to download this modified firmware.

Steps to install this A780 CG33 unicode:
    1. After download and unzip you will have following files:
    readme.txt
    R52_G_0D.74.A2R_0D.C0.B1P_SE6822AD3B1_L001_S011_P004_SE6822AD3B1025_fullCG33.smg
test_multi_languages.txt --> open this file to test unicode
    bins.mtf --> this file contain silivo's bash2, nano...
acmattach.txt --> auto telnet when usb cable plugged in
restore-native.lin --> this file to restore native database

    2. Use PST to flash:
    Replace motorola origin smg with:
    R52_G_0D.74.A2R_0D.C0.B1P_SE6822AD3B1_L001_S011_P004_SE6822AD3B1025_fullCG33.smg

    during "Erasing flash memory" process.

    3. Use Flashkit to flash:
    rename R52_G_0D.74.A2R_0D.C0.B1P_SE6822AD3B1_L001_S011_P004_SE6822AD3B1025_fullCG33.smg to a780_cg33.smg

    flashcp -v a780_cg33.smg /dev/mtd5

Steps to be done after installation this A780 CG33 unicode:
    1. Create a folder named "Startup" in /diska/.system folder and put all startup scripts there.
    2. Copy acmattach.txt to root directory of the phone (/diska/acmattach.txt). Your phone will switch to telnet mode automatic when usb cable plugged in. You rename file acmattach.txt in /diska folder to enable or disable this feature.
    3. Copy bins.mtf to root directory of the phone (/diska/bins.mtf). Tap on this file, the phone will create two folder "bin" and "lib" in /diska/.system. The bin folder contains bash2, nano..., the lib folder contains share libraries.
    4. copy restore-native.lin to memory card. You can put this file in any folder of memory card. When you want to restore native database, tap on it.
    6. Restart the phone

Steps to ajust the font size to make unicode font displaying nicer:
    1. telnet to phone.
    2. go to folder /ezxlocal/download/appwrite/setup
    3. copy file ezx_system.cfg to PC
    4. use ultraedit to edit file ezx_system.cfg on PC
    5. Search for Large/Medium/SmallFontSize
    6. Replace default size with Large=18/Medium=17/Small=16.
    7. Save the changes
    8. copy modified file ezx_system.cfg to phone at /ezxlocal/download/appwrite/setup.
    9. Disconnect, restart the phone.
    11. Choose setup, Text size = Medium
    12. Your phone is now display unicode font nicer.

    Nice work chiennk!

Is their a "lite" version of CG33 without all of the language support? I am looking for the startup folder, auto-telnet, and auto-backup mods for the A780.

I get this every time w/ flashkit, but I've used it at least a dozen times and always found that it was flashed correctly.

I have read here that this is "normal" and one should forget about the verifyingprocess at the end. I did and my phone works well.
