or is there another option to do that?

Ask rpconnect, he has done this already.
Yes, but does it run Linux?
ok i'll ask him
hm.. still does not work![]()
@mightymop
attached is the script i use to make the BT connection to the phone and start pppd on the host PC. Refer to the commented text in the file for information on forwarding the BT ppp network interface through the host PC. (the file is just a text file w/ a dummy .gz extension so that i could attach it; do not use gunzip, simply remove the extension)
rpconnect,
I wrote a similar script and also routed all traffic over the BT PPP connection. Works perfectly for most programs, can ping google, com, etc.
However, internal programs like Opera and the JVM (for any Java program) insists on having a GPRS connection although the system has a PPP connection routed to the internet. Have you had any success in getting Opera and JVM using the PPP connection without insisting on a GPRS connection ?
... i also got the ppp connection running and i am able to ping google and other hosts...but cant use opie ubrowser and vncviewer... cant find hosts ... (using the 20mb opie package) maybe i will try the other one today or is it just a question of settings in opie?

I don't know about Opie, but if it can't find hosts, maybe you didn't configure your dns ?Originally Posted by mightymop
Make sure your /etc/resolv.conf points to a file that contains valid dns server(s).
In general, it should work fine for non-java applications you install yourself. Only the internal applications (such as JVM and Opera) insist on having a GPRS connection. Once I get a GPRS connection here, I'll see how they check for it and try to emulate it for them.
btw, if you have GPRS, it would be nice to compare strate outputs of such program with the connection up and down, and see where it differs.
do you mean the linux host or the phone?Originally Posted by mack
on the phone i have made: echo nameserver 195.50.140.252 > /ram/tmp/resolv.conf and the phone was able to ping google via console...
i will try to create a /etc/resolv.conf too on the phone...
on the linux box (suse 9.3) i have the same dns/nameserver (arcor - german)
and my winxp pc (conneted via second eth) is able to work with
hm.. gprs emulator that lets the kvm (phone) thinks its connected via gprs ? sounds coolOriginally Posted by mack

so i cant help to much in that way...
or do you mean only connect via gprs without any transfer?
GnuBox works on Symbian Series60 devices so that the PPP connection is like a GPRS connection and the phone has no idea that it is not. It uses CSD (found in e680i also) for this purpose.
so can we port gnubox to our linuxphones?

@tazzix: Do you know other programs like gnubox? maybe for linux?![]()
