    it contains:
    cg15 - 20kb
    cg17 - 1kb
    rdl3 - 241kb

    cg15 is /usr/setup
the other 2 i'm not sure

Not sure how to apply that SHX file. Is it a patch to be applied directly to a firmware file ?

If it is, could someone please post the actual modified files ? I prefer to do the mods manually first, in a mount --bind, rather than reflashing.

not possible, you'd have to do the bind stuff before anything actually starts which isnt gonna work. Just flash it with PST, search for it.
Yes, but does it run Linux?

I'll look for it, but I generally prefer runtime patching, and do it even on stuff which is started at boot time. In some cases, its just a matter of attaching (ptrace) a process and injecting a close(2) and open(2) sequence, replacing a file-descriptor with some other file. In more complex cases, you can always --bind and cause a boot-started program to re-exec itself by ptrace(2)-based injection of exec(2), executing /proc/self/exe. I know its not a clean approach, but at least its non-persistent.

btw, some of the things described are not boot-started. For example, the camera fixed only affect the camera application which isn't started automatically. In fact, I put my camera in silent mode by simply running a script that opens /dev/dsp for writing and keeps it busy while the camera is in use. The camera application silently ignores the failed open(/dev/dsp) and takes pictures just fine without the additional noise.

Thats why I was interested to see the actual changes without reflashing. I can often find a way to do the same without reflashing. (Yeah, I'm a chicken when it comes to reflashing my phone . )

Uhh isnt reflashing much easier? Why go through all that when you can flash it? Seriously, you cant fuck up your phone, you can always start it again in bootloader and reflash it if a flash fails.
Yes, but does it run Linux?

You're probably right about reflashing being easier. I'm new with this phone and haven't reflashed it yet. I don't know how to get to the bootloader, etc.

Being a linux hacker on a new hardware platform I know little about, I try to make all my changes non-persistent until I convince myself that they're safe.

For example, I understand some people reflashed their phones with a new firmware and realized at+mode=99 doesn't work anymore. Wouldn't want to lose shell access to the phone unless I'm sure I know how to regain it.

In fact, if I do reflash it, I'll probably just reflash it to exec some script before init (like a /linuxrc or something). This way, I'll be able to do non-persistent changes easily, load kernel modules before init, etc. Has anyone released a flash update that does just that ?

I guess I'll do this minimal change myself and post it here after testing.
btw, does rwflash work well on the A780 ? Same instructions as the 680 ?

(I see PST is a windows thing, and I don't have a windows box so rwflash seems like my only option).
