yep, i've tried them all. 61 is an older unbranded english version. there are two 74 firmwares, *_L003_* and *_L001_* patterns in filenames, I'm using 74 _L003_ which is very sweet unbranded recent version.
there are discussions in chinese forums and people claiming that flashing 74 firmware adds GPS support to A780. one small problem is that flashing this firmware you upgrade AP version to 74, but BP refuses to upgrade. without flashing BP you can't reveal all "hidden" functionality.
what do I think about "hidden" functionality. it would be total nonsence if motorola included GPS chip in all phones even those released 2 years ago when nobody knew about motorola plans to include GPS support in european version. this relates to manufacturing costs, power saving, phone weight and other factors.
but listen.. a780 is quad band phone and supports 850Mhz, 900Mhz, 1800Mhz and 1900Mhz frequencies. do you think motorola included 4 _separate_ radios in phone? i don't think so. there's programmable dsp switching between these frequencies. GPS uses 1575.42MHz similar frequency. so what's the problem to program dsp to use GPS frequency while the radio is idle or just shutdown GSM and use GPS? i've even seen gps modules which adds gsm support (to sms coordinates) using the same radio. the only matter is stronger antenna.
so that's why i start believing that it's possible to have GPS support on the same old a780 hardware. and i'm surprised that ppl in ccmove forum arguing about GPS didn't mention this possibility.
my knowledge about bp, flexing, flashing, bootloader is still very weak. i can't even find bp address and interface to access it in linux

tried lots of different hacks to update bp (using different loaders, modified CG file versions) on my phone but unsuccessfully yet (it's still working

)
