does the american firmware allows connecting to phone over telnet?
how can i make a full backupflash?

american and german firmware almost doesn't differ. I'd prefer german version of 74 as it has more recent software.
for telnet you have to use linloader and acmattach. i've never had such problems with at+mode=99 before so didn't know about such hacks. check my answer in another thread

Is there anything I can do? Can you start up the a780 in bootloader mode like the 680?

If you want us to help you, please describe your problem in more detail and steps you've taken to fuck up the phone
To enter boot loader mode, you have to press camera button and jog dial button (on the opposite side of the camera button), and without releasing them, press power on button. You'll get blue screen and not fuzzy but informative lines across your screen

Yep, start it up in bootloader and reflash it. Ive had that too once, dont worry, just reflash it.

For AP side, if you phone's version is lower than R52_G_0D.61.A1R, you must upgrade to R52_G_0D.61.A1R first then you can upgrade to 74.A2R.

Hi guys - I am now a bit worried.

How: I down loaded the files from the first page. PST gave an error about no secure file. Then the phone and PST just stopped progressing the flash. I eventually pulled out the plug.

Problem: when the power button is pressed, the entiire screen comes on in blue striped lines (imagine a poorly tuned TV set). it stays on for about 3 minutes, then turns off.

My computer does not recognise my phone at all (although XP does make that "bomp-bom" which happens when you plug it in the USB port).


Camera, jog switch and power buttons just give me the same blue lines.

any other suggestions?

For some reason, despite pressing the same camera -jog and power buttons 50 times last night. The second time I tried it this morning - it went into boot loader mode.

Thanks everyone. I am very happy. Last night I had even started looking on ebay to see how much a new one was going to cost - now I have a pretty, working A780. Life is good.
