Bug 162003 (usbnet not working) will be fixed in the next Ubuntu release (8.10), to be released at the end of this month. I tested it in a beta.

So, no more need of compiling your own kernel.
Here is the compiled zaurus driver. I think it should work for all 2.6.24.-x Kernels (x86).
I have used the driver from Kernel 2.6.24-20 to 2.6.24-32.
Extract the archive and copy the driver.
Code:sudo cp zaurus.ko /lib/modules/<your kernel version>/kernel/drivers/net/usb/ sudo depmod -a
