Thumbs up [INFO] A1200 EDGE Speed Database

I thought it might be good to create a database so we can compare our connection speed

    Location: Houston, TX
    Carrier: T-Mobile
    Data Plan: T-MobileWeb ($5.99)
    Firmware: Generic 08P
    EDGE Mod: Yes
    Speedtest Result: 100kbps

    justthinking,

With the T-Mobile Web for $5.99, can you surf any website or just WAP enabled sites? Do they restrict you to T-Mobile sites (T-Zones)?

I used to have access to the web for free up until 5 days ago with no web service atached to my phone (T-Zones). All I entered was all of the T-Mobile access info and bamm... free internet. Now it's all gone.

Please let me know before I go and waste my time with that $5.99 plan.

    Thanks,

    Kasei

PS: Yes I did the EDGE seem edit. Now I want to try it out.

If you have T-Mobile and you have the $5.99 T-MobileWeb plan, you can serve pretty much any http site on your A1200

Things like Google Search and Google Map also works.

Build in E-Mail Client and MSN messenger does not work, however, I have no problem using MSN Mobile to access either my hotmail or msn messenger.

I also have no problem tether my phone and my laptop so my laptop can get online using BT connection with A1200. With tethering, all ports seem to be working...I can access FTP and POP mail, msn and skype login just fine, also all webpage loads just fine too...

Here are my results. I also lost the blank text message for missed calls and I now get a prompt on my phone to listen to Voice Mail and auto dials it too!!! It also now vibrates my phone when I dont answer my Voicemail.

    Location: Brooklyn, New York
    Carrier: T-Mobile
    Data Plan: T-MobileWeb ($5.99)
    Firmware: R532_G_11.00.53PBP
    Flex: GSZHNANT675WB013DSP
    EDGE Mod: Yes
    Speedtest Result: 120kbps

I also lost the MSN and email features on my phone.. Why did that happen ? Any way to fix that ?

One quick question. Do we pay for data charges with the $5.99 plan or can we download and surf with no extra charges ? I really dont feel like paying $30 a month for unlimited bandwidth.

T-Mobile closed lots of open ports ealier this month, that's why you no longer can access e-mail and msn using the build in software with the $5.99 plan

However, you can still surf the net, download stuff, and use software like google search and google map just fine with the $5.99 plan

Since all my mail accounts (hotmail, gmail, yahoo mail, and my work e-mail) all have web-base interface, I really don't mind checking my mails through the web broswer and I can also use msn mobile to get on msn messenger (web-base again)

My Gmail app still works on my phone, so I am not that concerned with the email problem. Still wondering if we will be paying data charges for the $5.99 plan ??

I use my A1200 phone primarily for video streaming via the orb.com software...I noticed that with EDGE...the burst speed is incredible (sometimes up to 200kb/sec)...but steady consistent transfer rate only between 60-75kb/sec at best regardless of location. I use Cingular here in the US.
