    Default A1200 and the Internet

Well this is mainly directed to all the Cingular users out there ...

I'm debating on getting this phone and i'm curious since it's not compatible with Cingular's new 3G network at how fast it actually loads web pages?

I mainly want to use it to surf a few forums I like to keep up with, check email using yahoo and gmail and keep up with my fantasy football stuff weekly :P

I currently have the Nokia E62 which I just bought and am having a few issues with and really prefer Motorola anything over any other brand phone anyhow.

Also i've noticed the prices of the phone have gone down a-lot recently and are available via. eBay for 318$ buy now.

Are there any certain versions of the phone or anything I should be looking for to get the best / most current version of the phone?

Hey I have cingular and if you decide to buy this phone your going to have to put in some work to get the phone to work the way you want it to. the phone has a few bugs in it but here in forums we can help you along the way. you have to put email, browser settings in yourself so you have to do alittle reading here in the forums to get them. all in all a great phone but it take's a little time to get the phone how you want it.

Well, I'm on Cingular just outside the metro Philly, and I do quite a bit of web surfing on my A1200. That includes checking a number of blogs, forums, and my gmail account. How fast does it load pages? Well, I can't give you exact numbers, but to me it seems pretty fast all things considered. Definitely better than a dial up connection, but not enough to call it high speed. To give an example I'd say it takes about a minute to go from telling the browser to load up gmail to actually reading my messages.

As for the 'most current version' of the phone....my rec would be to go with a reputable company, like HKS Mobile (formerly TBFB). Great price, great service, and a number of forum members here have ordered from them.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Hard-case, when surfing the internet browsing your forums etc, does the phone display the actual page, or does it run on a program like opera with scaled down pages etc? (i'm not sure the technical term to differentiate the two)

I'm gonna need some serious walking through ... and I mean step by step when toying around with this thing to get it the way I want it ... when I get it =P

The main browser included in the OS package does display the whole/actual webpage, or at least it does on the pages/forums I go to, but in some instances it doesn't display certain items. Usually this is when you have things like embedded video windows in a web page, or certain methods of picture displays (so far only one site does this to me). The page will be displayed in a 'modified format', such that it is displayed in one long vertical column. You can go into the settings to allow it to display the whole page, though. Honestly, I've actually gotten used to an preferred Opera on the phone. It displays enough of what I'm looking for, and it does load faster than the standard.

As for step through, trust me....you'll find everything you could possibly want in the stickies here, from setting up Internet/MMS usage for Cingular, to flashing the firmware, to performing seem edits. And if not, there's plenty of guys here who'll be glad to try and help you out!
