Hi I recently purchased a Motorola A1200, and severl functions are not working. Im not sure if I need to install software so it will work on the USA Cingular Network or what. But here are my problems: 1st Problem) When I enter the www browser and it trys to connect I get a "Network Problem" error and it gives the address "http://device.home/ . When I try to use "go to" and I try www.google.com I get the same "Network Problem" error and this time the address is http://search1.com/search?q=www.goog...utf-8&oe=utf-8 . 2nd) My MSN Messenger menus are all in japanese and I cant read them. Im not sure if there are patches or something that I am missing, but anything that has to do with connecting to the cingular network does not work. If someone could help me It would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

A1200 is not CARRIED by CINGULAR so YOU CANNOT EXPECT to have it set up for CINGULAR. You have to do all the settings yourself. I would READ the STICKIES like other member said. Also you have CHINESE not JAPANESE MSN since this phone was made for CHINA not for US. Just read the Stickies about settings for CINGULAR and you should be ok. You can do it yourself ... don't take it to CINGULAR because they Customer Support are IDIOTS.Originally Posted by EvGottie
This might be neither here nor there, but, I don't think the whole internet connectivity problem with Cingular is just an A1200 problem. I was with AT&T before Cingular took over and renewed my contract right as the change over was happening. I got one of the "free" Nokia phones (NON PDA) that has internet capability. When the network was still under AT&T, I could connect to the internet. When the change over to Cingular happened, suddenly I couldn't connect.
I think it might have to do with the plan you have with Cingular. If you sign up with a plan that has "data access", you'll be able to connect, if not, you won't. I don't know that for sure, but it's the only way I can explain why my ability to connect to the internet stopped.
I agree codename78, Cingular's customer service SUCKS! When AT&T was running the show, I felt like they cared about my problems, and they did everything they could to solve any issues I had. Cingular's tech support could care less if they help you or not. From what I've heard from my friends on other networks (e.g. T-mobile, Verizon, etc.) Cingular still sounds like the best "overall" network out there. I suppose you can't have everything perfect.

The problem is that people got very much used to over-the air settings setup, however, what they don't realize that this is done to only the phone models that are present on the database of the network, so it will not work with phone models that are not carried by the provider. The A1200 is of course one of these models and you must configure your internet settings manually by yourself. Get the settings from the website or from customer service and set a new profile and input the settings in that profile. The same goes for SMS/MMS (if not already set on the SIM card) and Email accounts.
If you would change your Settings from AT&T to CINGULAR you would be able to connect. AT&T had different settings and some phones didn't chane automaticly. It has all to do with settings if he has web plan/Originally Posted by nachtkriechen
I'm sure you guys are right. The plan I signed up for doesn't have data, but, then again, when it was AT&T, I didn't have data in the plan either, but would still allow me to connect, and I'd just be charged for what I used.
At any rate, I think samkatta's right. We Americans just expect a lot of things to be done for us automatically, and when we don't get it, we whine about it. Personally, I don't mind doing the work myself, if I can figure it out. I'm not a programmer, but figuring out phones is fairly easy, and I've got a rudimentary knowledge of I.P. addresses and what not. Though this "Seem editing" thing sounds like it would take me a while to understand.
I'd love to be able to get my email on my A1200 when I get it, but, Cingular's data plans are only available on their most expensive plans, and the amount of data they allow per month isn't very generous. I'm a full time student, so, champagne taste on a beer budget just doesn't work.
Thanks,
