It just seems rediculous for Motorola to make this such a pain for their loyal customers.
A better question would be: Since the phone was designed by motorola for the chinese market why would there be anything on the phone that couldn't be used in china? Huuuuhm......me wonders, BTW, no EDGE in china...they use 3G.

I know this may be a post for another thread, but since you guys are talking about EDGE here for seem edits: EDGE is not a hardware thing, its a software thing. Any GSM phone can use EDE, new phones are marketing gimmicks. Dont believe me? look here(peole that created EDGE technology) http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/edge/index.shtml
    Enjoy!

I just mentioned no EDGE in china...actually its a mix just like everywhere else, some places have edge others have 3g, but they are all GSM derrivatives anyway.

Not all phones capable of EDGE, and EDGE is not only a software thing certain hardware specifics should be in the phone to enable it to use EDGE, otherwise it would not be a feature that manufacturers list on there product's specifications, all manufacturers list either a phone is EDGE capable or not (that should count for something in the hardware, don't you think so).

And by the way, the link you posted refers to current GSM networks and not phones that only need a software upgrade to be EDGE capable, and that is true as new networks installed have unified infrastructure and a provider requests certain features to be implemented during their setup and afterwards if the provider asks for a certain feature he gets a software upgrade to allow this feature to operate. However, when you read the last 2 lines of the article it mentions a number for the EDGE capable devices released in the market, so if what you said is true and that all phones can have EDGE through software they wouldn't mention that info regarding devices.

Is there any sort of beginners guide to this whole seem editing thing? I really want to go in and add the time auto update feature and get rid of the VM text issue, but I don't even know where to start. I'm familiar with flashing, but I've never gone into seem editing. I've downloaded Radiocom and XVI32, but like I said, I'm not really sure where to begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Im sure you probably know more than I do, but I assumed that the radio transciever used for GSM was capable of using the whole GSM bandwidth, and since EDGE and WCDMA(3G) overlay directly onto that bandwidth, it should follow, by tweaking software, you could pick up data at any wavelength the radio crystal could be tuned to. Right? I mean some devices with GSM radio transcievers dont pick up EDGE and 3g, but that is usually because of limitations put on them by software. The radio is either tuned to GSM band or its not. The same wavelenths you get your voice data on is the same wavelengths you get EDGE data on. This may need to be moved to a new thread, but anybody have any thoughts on this?
