  1. Default Q: Is there an AIM app for A1200?

Wuts up guys....I'm new to the forums and have had my A1200 for like 4 days and love it. Reading all your posts have been really helpful and insightful. I don't quite understand the concepts on the codes that you guys use to program the phone but I'll get there.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has found a way to put AIM on the phone. I use AIM a lot more than MSN so I thought that I'd ask. Thanks in advance for any response.

i believe this is for linux machines. Mobile linux is different from what i know. So i think we would need a java version for it to work.

No great sol'n I have yet to find for AIM. Maybe we should create a developer colloberation here and get some apps going? Still getting familiar myself to J2ME and the A1200.

Anyways, I've been using J2MIM from http://www.buildhigh.com/jonnychat. It uses data connection for AIM functions and works decently. Has its bugs, but friendly enough. My biggest gripe is that I cannot get the vibration notification on IM to work. Haven't tried its sounds support, so I can't comment on that. Its a sol'n, atleast a temp one that seems to work and needs lot of work to fix the issues.

what about im+ , it works fine with the phone but you have to pay for it. You can try out the demo version on their site i believe.

    im+ works on linux?

does it use data or text? because unlimited data is cheaper than unlimited text

Yes, it works, I have tried it. Pretty much any J2ME app should work on our platform. Its independent. But then again, poor coding on some j2me apps will cause them to behave in an akward ways.

IM+ does work. only thing is it seems delayed and IM+ uses a proxy to get your aim messages and is not direct. Personally didn't like it. Try it out though. They give you, what? 5 day trial with 3 message transaction per sessior or something very similar to that.

Don't quote me on this, but I am 99% sure it used data only.

just found out that in US with T-mobile service, you can access AIM, downside is that you will need unlimited text messaging service for best value.
    1. Access t-zone from broser,
    2. Select T-mobileWeb from list after connecting to t-zone
    3. Select e-mail & IM from list
    4. Select AIM or Yahoo Messenger from list
    5. AIM- select sign on
    Yahoo- select sign on
    6. Options (bottom left button w/3 bars thingy)
    7. Active Page
    8. Add to bookmarks
    9. Do same for both AIM/Yahoo

To use the AIM/Yahoo service now, all you need is go to browser --> bookmarks --> AIM or Yahoo -or-
what i did was just go to browser, and created a new profile.
    Profile Name :AIM
Homepage: (copy and paste or manual input from your bookmarks list) --i found that leaving out the "http://" works best, test for your self.--
Network Link: whatever you have set to access t-zone/online service

Since i use only AIM and MSN when out of the home, i set the new profile as default so when ever i click on broser, it brings me right to the AIM login page.

Again, you can use the bookmarks method if you happen to use t-zone or other online browsing services.

Now i dunno about cingular, but im assuming it should be about the same way, just depending on where cingular puts is e-mail & IM option on there webpage.

This will work, sadly it wont have its own AIM icon you can place on the shortcuts bar or desktop, but it will get you the service.

---- Again, this method uses text messaging NOT data services. so UNLIMITED TEXT MESSAGES should be a part of your service plan. $14.99 is what T-mobile charges for that. ----

If anyone finds a better way to do this, or an actual addon software, please post.
    Hope this helps.

p.s.- anyone have generic (non branded) 44p, 46p firmware they are willing to share? jasonhko7278@gmail.com thanks in advance.
