Internet over Motorola A1200 on Ubuntu 8.10

Shure why not... Should be working tho since all the settings they use are the same am using for my windows connection. But if you ask me it's kind of dirty method since every time you want to connect you need to open up a console and then type wvdial.

The advantage of heaving everything inside the new network manager is the way everything is handled and internet is only one click away.

That solely depends on speed of your service provider. Normally GPRS can not achieve high speeds (depending on version):

GPRS Class	Slots	Max. data transfer speed
Class 2		3	8 - 12 kbps upload / 16 - 24 kbps download
Class 4		4	8 - 12 kbps upload / 24 - 36 kbps download
Class 6		4	24 - 36 kbps upload / 24 - 36 kbps download
Class 8		5	8 - 12 kbps upload / 32 - 40 kbps download
Class 10	5	16 - 24 kbps upload / 32 - 48 kbps download
Class 12	5	32 - 48 kbps upload / 32 - 48 kbps download

Am not quit sure what are the possibilites of your E6 (am a A1200 user)... sorry! As an alternative you can make a thread in E6 section of this forum and am sure if there is a way to speed up your phone someone will help you...

it is easy to connect a1200 as a modem for ubuntu.you have to do is you must know operator settings to connent gprs on your mobile and now you must go to ubuntu connection settings select mobile and type the apn address and other field left blank then connect it. important your connection must not be a wap to connect on system so ask to the operator whether it can be used on pc as modem
