How do I change the default text screen?

when i go to the text screen, and i begin to compose a message, it automatically ASSUMES i want to use "Handwriting", and i have to manually tap on it, and change it to "English Keyboard" every time, is there a way to set it up, so that it always goes to English Keyboard?
