MPT & A1200 making me crazy!

I just got my new Ming, and i've been going crazy trying to get Phonetools to work!

First off, my phone didn't come with phonetools, just a cd with realplayer & some crappy video editing thing.
(don't know why it didn't come with it.)

So I downloaded at least 3 different versions of MPT...
from v4 to v5.

Older versions just hang at the "initializing" on the little phone... and on the new version (V. 5)... it just searches for my phone, says my phone isn't compatible, and tells me to go to Live Update. And Update just tells me that I already have the latest version! (it did that trying to update v4 too)

I tried switching the modem to Auto Launch on & off, I tried switching the USB mode from Modem to Mass Storage, to Media Sync...
Nothing seems to get any version of MPT to work!

And after reading a few things here, I'm now slightly worried that maybe because I didn't get a CD with MPT on it, that my phone may be bootleg/fake!
I don't know for sure now.

(Although I bought it from a VERY electronics company reputable dealer in NYC, USA. (J&R Music World) And it looks pretty authentic. But not sure now because I read somewhere that my phone was supposed to come with MPT on the software CD, an extra SD card, a data cable and a headset... but not exactly sure if that's true or not. I also read it comes with different stuff in different countries. Mine only came with an extra stylus, wall charger, and a CD with Real Player & Video editor.)

Because it didn't come with a data cable, I'm using one that came with a camera I have. It seems to be the exact same as what would come with the A1200, and works opening and sending stuff to the SD card... so I would guess it's OK, and can't see how a different one would matter.

I don't know what else to doto get MPT to work!
And I'm going CRAZY!!!

data cable is the same, i use the one that came with MY canon camera.

try updating the motpcs drivers

I would take it back to them,because it should come with the cd,512mbTFlash,extra stylus and headphones. It's not that you wont be able to get MPT working because i could probley get that working for you,but the phone seems to me to be a fake or a really old model. My first a1200 i bought had the cd an it was blank but my phone is very real so maybe it's real,but why take a chance. What firmware does it have an what model is it a1200,a1200r,a1200e or a1200i? This info will let me know what you should do an if it's fake or not.

I can't "take it back" because I sent for it via internet.
I could send it back maybe, but I had asked a customer service rep before ordering it about what was in the box. He said that it came with whatever mobile shipped it to them with.
So...

As far as the "firmware"... I have absolutely NO idea how to check which one it is.
Please explain how.

Thanks... but how do I do that, and what exactly am I updating... the MPT software... or the phone?
If it's the phone... how do I do that?

Also... when I downloaded a version of the MPT software, it came with a usb driver updater. After I did that... I couldn't find the extra memory card in windows explorer anymore, causing me to reset the phone, and recustomized it, etc. all over again.
This won't do that... will it...???

Just opened that zip file... Jeez... what do I do with them all, and which do I use. Seems by some filenames that some may possibly be for different flavors of Windows... I have XP... how do I use those files?
