Help: Making an A1200 skin with Windows XP

Ive read Eakrins guide forwards and backwards... Im lost. I have XP, and if someone could just simplify it... tell me what program, what it opens... and how I can access the files so I can photoshop something!

I know, Im an idiot... I admit it... I just want to make a skin!!!!!

Someone help me, please? With all due respect to Eakrins obvious genius... I need it "dumbed down" for me...

without any help whats so ever except google Im already making a skin. basic build time for the enviroment mmm10 minutes due to downloads. Been making skins for other platforms such as xbox so this should be fairly easy. I just love photoshopping!

you need active perl, a few perl unpacking scripts and telnet, to telnet into your phones directory and extract the original skin to work off of. that said happy modding! Im making a linux themed skin oh and your choice of skin installer what ever it may be. a good screen capture program wouldn't be bad at all to make preview shots.

Thats great! Could you give me some kind of example? IE: Access skin with (program) extract skin images with (program) a simplified how-to? Im used to skinner4moto... and would love a "A1200 skinning for dummies" guide!

Prerequisite ----> Smart Assistant or any other type of lin loader if you want to skip the telnetting part.


1. Download Active Perl & install it! http://www.activestate.com/store/dow...9-e1483f751c4f
2. Download Lin skin extracting script and save it to your Ming (once run under smartass it will dump the compressed skin packages onto your MicroSD card http://my.opera.com/eakrin/homes/blog/getA1200skins.zip
3. Download Perl Scripts & run http://my.opera.com/eakrin/homes/fil...ckager1.05.zip
(to extract the compressed images you just dumped on your phones memory card. There will be a new skins folder in your mmc once you executed the .lin file)
4. Execute the perl script in its respective directory based on the Readme.txt instructions found inside the perl script archive.

5. You should have uncompressed image dumps of the phones gui. Ta DA! Hack away with photoshop. note: drinking increases creativeness.

Edit...I must be an idiot... the files are (filename.g) and cant be opened with Fireworks....

XXX.g.gif this is a default image name in iconres.ezx file all my windows application can open it. but I didn't use Firework before. If you still have this problem with firework I 'll modding a script of you. but check it first.
